Long tubes with cats/Disappearing CEL?

Recently I had a set of Stainless Works long tube catted headers installed along with a drop in K&N filter element. I drove it the first day or 2 with the CEL on until I could get it tuned. Great power and sound. Yesterday I noticed the CEL was gone. Same today. Is this a temporary thing? Anybody else experience this? Thoughts.....?

Probably o2 sensor related. You should have the code read next time to be sure, but it's normal to get an o2 code intermittently after hi flow cat install. The tune should remove the cel if done properly.

Mostly like o2 related as stated. Hi flows have a chance, albeit a smaller one than the catless route, to throw an o2 sensor code. The car will turn the CEL off after a few drive cycles if it doesn't see the problem again. It's only a matter of time before it returns. Best way to go about it is getting them tuned out. That way you can also maximize the most power out of them with the tune as well.

Ya. I'm getting the tune in about a week. It'll be interesting to see if the CEL returns. I had a 10 SS that had 27k MI on it when I got it and I put OBX R long tube and hi flow cats on with a K&N filter and the CEL stayed on steadily. I'm surprised it turned off with this car. This is a 14 with only 6k miles on it. Better headers though for sure. Thanks for the input

delayed response from o2s, remove o2s at rear needed in tune along with removing part of code showing the fronts delayed response due to their being farther away....

Both my car and truck don't care about not having cats, only threw codes once or twice then never came back. Don't know why, never cared! I'd imagine you'd be in even better shape having cats.

Black tape mod or get a tune. Very rare to see anyone install headers on these cars and not get a CEL. Had the same problem when I bought my car used from the dealer. Original owner installed kooks long headers and a K&N CAI. The light came on as soon as I pulled out of the dealer but never came on during the test drive.

To get the most out of the mod a Tune is required and more importantly in my case I need to pass emissions so it was a no brainer.

In my opinion, getting the cel is a good sign that your cats are better flowing. If you never get the cel, then the airflow must be similar to stock.

Good points on both. A tune is definitely in the works. I've got a guy willing to do $400 unlimited tunes for as long as I have the car. Setting up for 1st week of March. The light was still on when I drove home. Guess I can live with it 1 more week.

What's the black tape mod? And will your car pass emissions after/if the rear o2 are shut off?

Waiting a bit to get your tune won't hurt anything. But keep in mind you're leaving power on the table and generally running very rich before the tune.
