OP, not to be in your financial business, but if you're only putting $10K on a car that will likely cost you @$70K, you're looking at a whopping monthly car payment, probably in the $700+ range. I would consider that......great cars, as I've said, but that's monthly rent or a house payment for some lucky folks. Just the .02 cents of an old dude.

No I wouldn’t and I’ve always been a BIG Corvette fan. The reason is because the C7 Corvettes just don’t have a whole lot of room to them. The interiors feel more similar to a late C3 to me as far as size. I would love to have that kind of power, but I can get that with a 6th gen ZL1 so why compromise all of the extra room?

You are talking about the difference between a 6-7 year old car worth around $20-25k and a 1-2 year old car worth around $65-70k. Few wouldn’t take that trade straight up.
However, money is almost always an object. If it wasn’t, we’d all own at least one of each. Only you can really decide if you can afford a $70k car and there’s always the question of can vs. should. |

It's all about what you want...the C7 is the only vette I'd consider...But I love my Camaro. From the first 5th gen I saw, I had to have one. It replaced my 69" SS Camaro and to me there's no comparison between the two. I supercharged my baby and that took the love to the next level.

It’s a personal financial decision. If I sold the 1LE, I’d get a Z06. Opted for plan B. Kept the 1LE, picked up a brand new Z51 with the exact options I wanted on a big year-end discount last year. The Camaro is an incredibly fun muscle car, but the C7 is another animal altogether.

Do you need a Z06? Why not just the Grand Sport? Actually a Gen5 ZL1 would be interesting and great deal.

Yup. Think of it this way...
The STOCK LT1 Corvette, performance wise, is already beyond what most of us, even some cammed guys have. That 'lightness' really makes a huge difference. Yes, we can lose weight, but at what cost? There is a 400/500 pound difference right off that bat. For us to lose that kind of weight, we would essentially be driving a shell. And aerodynamically, we will never be where the Vette is. For me personally, I truly adore my Camaro. I feel it is an extension of myself. But I have now owned 5-6 Camaro/Firebirds. I have owned ZERO Vettes. But the bottom line is that I am not in a position financially to be able to afford a C6 Vette, let alone a stock C7. So a Z06 is pretty much a pipe dream at this time.

As much as I think the new Vettes are bad ass, I’m old enough that I remember the stigma of, ‘old dude in a Corvette’ is compensating for something. I never got that sense with the Camaro, although some outside our circle may think the same. Sorry, it’s just old tapes, I guess. I think I’d save my pennies for an older 911 Carrera.

As for the Camaro stereotype? I fit into it pretty well. I am 43 years old (no mullet thankfully) and wear primarily concert shirts...Gun's N' Roses, RHCP, Nirvana, etc. So I am not exactly helping the cause here.

No. Not at any price. Look here, my Camaro is not a poor mans Corvette. Personally I could afford a ‘vette just as easily as a Camaro, it’s just that I’ve been in love Camaros since I was 8 years old and that’s that.
(Besides I’m not 72 years old, I already have a good looking wife and my car is faster than any stock Corvette, so I’m good). |
