6th Gen Coupe Vs 6th Gen Vert
Looked throughout the forum as well as a search. I've always heard the stories about how convertibles are garbage and coupes are the only way to go etc...I would agree that back in the day that was 100% true. I unfortunately don't know as much about these new whips as I do the older ones.
What real performance difference are we looking at? I know there is a 200 lb weight difference, but how bad can the chassis flex be with all of the additional bracing? How big of a difference in the 1/4 or 0-60 are we looking at? Does anyone here own both the coupe and the vert?

I think the gap is closing for sure. In particular the Z06 (or was it the ZR1) is supposed to have been built in such a way that the coupe has no advantage over the convertible. I think that was the ZR1 tho but I'm not sure. So they can do it. I doubt there is much difference in the Camaro. Unless you're talking about the 1LE which do not have a soft top or even a sunroof option. If the soft top is a must have then I doubt you'd sacrifice much in the way of performance on the standard Camaros.

I use to own a BMW 3 series and thought it was the best handling car I've ever had. I've owned several sports cars, mustangs, Camaros, Audi, etc....but I swear this convertible SS I have now handles just as good if not better than my 3 series. I don't feel body roll or flex. Need to find someone local with a coupe and do some side by side runs I guess

I love my Convertible ZL1 I ran 11.40 bone stock and now it has over 700+ to the wheels so no issue with mine...

Agree - the new convertible is great.
Very stiff solid chassis. It handles very well. I think you give up 150lbs. But that’s not much. That’s about all you give up. I have owned many BMW, Audi, corvette, Miata, 911 etc and this car even in convertible form matches up very well in performance and pure driving pleasure. Best thing is the no top option completely eliminates any visibility concern! Although even with top up I don’t find it bad personally. |
