Differential fluid question

It has came to my attention that there are 2 different bottles of rear diff fluid with the same part number 10-4034. One of the bottles has GL5 on it and the other one doesn't. Does anyone know if it is the same fluid and different bottles. i have searched here and the corvette forums but no definitive answer was given other that GL5 is a pressure rating.

OEM part number is= 88862624.

There’s a similar part number= 1#88862624.

Bottles looks almost the same except the 1# part number bottle doesn’t say GL5 on it.

Both carry the same ACDELCO number 10-4034. I wonder if there’s a difference?

I Google'd this 75w-90 gl-5 and found something this, maybe the same thing you saw:

High-Grade Automotive Gear Oil (GL-5) GEAR OIL GL-5 is a high-grade automotive gear oil made from highly refined base oil and top-performance extreme-pressure agents, metal anticorrosion agents, detergent-dispersants and other additives. It meets the API service classification grade GL-5.

There was even past Camaro 5 threads mentioning this GL-5 fluid but nothing that really stood out as whats the difference.

If no one gives a good reason on why the GL-5 would be better then I'd just get the non GL 5 fluid and continue using that one.

I found that the dealership was the only place I could find the recommended OEM part 88862624 and the other one 1#88862624 was more widely available. I was hesitant to buy the latter because it doesn’t say GL5 on the front label.

You can easily find 88862624 on Amazon. It's where I purchased mine from.

From BOBISTHEOILGUY forum:

GL-5 is for hypoid gears which is what you have.

https://www.oilspecifications.org/api_gos.php

The bottle with GL-5 is the just a change in the label. Both are GL-5.

probably not but ZX-10R is a big proponent of using aftermarket fluids due to the mark up due to licensing fees for Dexos certs ect:

IIRC 88862625 is the GM Canada part # and is in 1 litre bottles

Sorry that was a typo. It’s 88862624. Only difference is the preceding “1#....”

It's GL-5 and has a superb reputation, not sure what else matters (full synthetic)

Remember Delco doesn't manufacture oil, it's just rebranded. Why not use the best product available
