Cheated on the 1500 mile break in

One month 500 miles and just had to try a 0-60. Everything that I have read and watched it is exactly. Awesome machine!

Naughty boy! Now go turn your car in so someone more responsible can have it.

Seriously, I never could abide 100% to the break in periods for my performance cars and they all have been fine. I didn't beat on them but I did have a little fun here and there.

Enjoy!

I have had a couple of "accidents" too. Past 80 mph and past 4000 rpm. I think I only went to 5000 rpm twice in 1300 miles. It gets there really quick and I was trying not to get hit by flying rocks from the windshield killer and didn't notice.

Beautiful car man. Forget about the damn owners manual scare tactics. These cars go for test rides with 10 miles on them and get bounced off the rev limiter and never skip a beat. Took my '16 Z06 to the drag strip with around 600 miles no problem at all. Been running the balls off every new performance car I've had new from day one and never had a problem and neither has anyone else I know who has done the same. Every engine builder I have know says the same thing, let it fly from the go. 1,500 mile break in is ridiculous and just the manufacturers way of hopping you get comfortable and more proficient with the vehicle before you hammer it.

How can you prove that all the cars you have been "running the balls off of" wouldn't have gone for 100,000 or 200,000 more miles than than they will now?

I hear you Trident, I am at 850 and buzzed to 5K a few times. And over 100 a couple. Keep trying to abide by the manual and I am sure all is good. What we are doing is much better than babying them and driving at a steady state.

My past cars have always been faster than the same model/setup that some local acquaintances have had. I attribute that to my break in style. Not trying to start an argument, could be just coincidence. I follow the recommended procedures within reason but I give em 85% hell on occasion with a nice cool off drive after. Never put a car away hot from a full or near full throttle run! At least that is my way.

If I do this and the engine blows, will you pay for a new one?

Glad to hear you got a taste, and you liked it, Trident!! More reasons to complete that break-in!

Drive your car your way...let others drive theirs the way they desire.

Many will follow the manufacturer's suggestion, so refrain from the "scare tactics" stuff, please...that's not what it is, and that sort of rhetoric is not going to help anybody who may be new and is reading this.

If your ZL1 is not modified & grenades you will be getting a new motor under warranty!!! GM Declining a motor claim because you failed to break in engine 😂
