Mechanic labor negotiations\thoughts on pricing
So in the next few weeks i'm having a whipple installed, longtube headers and fuel system upgrades done, this is my first "big" modification that im having done by a shop. Is it normal to negotiate pricing of installs\tunes etc or are shops kinda set in stone on pricing from the start? Not sure if its a normal thing to negotiate.
also, heres the prices ive been given so far (the 8700 includes install and custom tune) |

Seems like a pretty good price to me.

You could always make your own spreadsheet with the parts they will purchase and determine the labor hours being charged. (Itemized) This weekend Phastek is having a sale on Whipples. Looks like 6-8 week lead time.
https://www.phastekperformance.com/2...ers-s/1432.htm I don’t see headers or install on your quote. Are the headers and labor included in the $8700?

I wonder how shops feel about customers providing their own performance parts. Also I'm pretty sure they are set on their pricing.

The supercharger alone is $7k. That seems like a good deal. What about the Whipple warranty? If you care about that sort of thing.

I'd say the supercharger is $7k, catch can is $330, spark plugs I'm assuming are over $100, $600-700 for custom tune. And install is probably 5-6hrs given they are pros @$100+ per hour, we'll say $600, total that's $8630-$8730 so pretty spot on to me.

The bitterness of poor quality remains long ,after the sweetness of the cheap price is long forgotten.
