Looking at car with Comp Cam 54-459-11 - Any advice

I am planning on traveling out of state to look at a car with Comp Cams 54-459-11. It is a 2015 1lE with 15k miles.

I am somewhat timid now with reading all the stories of cam failures from Comp. This being sure I am not sold it has detered me to the point of not buying unless I hear from people more experienced that would advise otherwise.

The Camshaft is LS1 281LR HR-113 (i.e. this confused me but assumed it was just comps numbering system)

From a specification standpoint it is
Advance 280/289
231/239 113
Lift .617/.624

Trying to find a similar cam to compare it to such as a BTR or GPI but have not had a whole lot of success.

Just looking for input on how aggressive this may be based on others experience (i.e. I know it isn't what most consider a "baby" cam based on the specs) and whether I should trust Comp products.

It says that cam is for cathedral port heads.... 2015 Camaro has rectangular ports. I'm not sure why they used that cam????

Thanks for the heads up somehow I missed that intially. No I am royally confused as if you read the attached listing in Summit it suggests its for rectangular port heads.

EDIT: Noted that it was suggesting "LSR Camshafts" in general not specifically this one.

At 9* of overlap, I wouldn't consider that a "baby" cam. It's more aggressive than a lot of stage 2 LS3 cams. It will have enough buck, surge, and shake to remind you there's a bigger cam in there. It will work just fine in an LS3.

If the oil has been changed on a regular basis, and the valve train was set up right, you shouldn't have any problems.

With a stock intake that cam will work just fine. It will actually produce some nice torque along with extending the rpm range to a shift point of 7-7200. If the price is right i would pick it up. My 1LE was the funnest car I ever had! I managed mid 11s@120 with my bolt on set up and a tiny clutch.... Good Luck

I have the cam in the photo in my car currently. It has specs close to the specs you listed above, but I don't know how the differences in duration and lift between the two cams relates to +/- HP.

It has been an ok cam, but I certainly wouldn't pick it again. One of the vendors on this site sold it to me as a "custom cam", for which I paid a premium. Turns out it is an off the shelf Comp Cams unit. Comp Cams doesn't really have great customer service either. They have ignored my technical question on FB and in emails. I will never own another one of their products again because of the poor customer service.

Other than those two gripes, it has made good power and I raced all last season (80+ passes) with it in the car. It has been in the car about a year now, maybe 5000 miles or so and it hasn't failed yet. You can see HP & ET numbers in my sig.

Texas speed has very similar cam , its the old ls3 grind for there stage 3 or 4 cam. Has close ptv they say but many have run it with great success.

The spec of the comp cam in the car are of a max effort cam on stock head/block ls3
