Service stabilitrak unless I reverse (swapped camaro)
So as the title says, when i start the car nothing no lights all is clear. Then drive forward and here we go lights on, but if I reverse, for an undocumented amount of time (usually a few seconds) it shuts two of the lights off and service stabilitrak goes away but what I believe to be abs stays on.
As a side note, I swapped the entire car from another wrecked 5th gen, except the shocks and suspension, including the ls3 and m6, ecm, bcm, ebcm, srs, gauge cluster etc etc. I swapped the wheel sensors as well just not the calibers. What else could it be? I even swapped the steering wheel column, wheel itself and sensors etc. Car runs exceptional and no cel. Also swapped the wheels and the tpms went away so no issue there and reads the pressures. Last edited by Thelegendl23; 09-10-2018 at 09:33 AM. |

A dtc would go a long way in helping us help you.

Got it, I haven't bled the abs system yet, could that be it? I know to cycle cycle the module I need a tech 2 but I've read a standard bleed will work?

Bleeding the brakes will help, but it won't cause those lights to turn on. If you have replaced the ebcm, and bpmv you will need a tech 2 to bleed them properly. Air gets stuck in the bpmv that can't be removed easily without an electronic bleed. Personally I believe the concern is with the wheel speed sensors. they may not be compatible with the hubs or some other concern.

You should ck the speed sensors as mentioned. Those usually trip a BCM code though and those, if not working, will let you know 'which' one is not working properly (based on the code #).

I would swap all hubs and senors. Parts stores should be able to retrieve a dtc from the ebcm.

So it's a steering wheel sensor.. easy enough fix but how do I know where to put it back to? Or do I have to give in and pay gm
I swapped the sensor and wheel from the other car. |

If the steering wheel rotated during the swap you may need a new steering angle sensor and to recenter the airbag coil. You may get lucky and be able to rotate the wheel back, but I've never had any luck doing that. If you did all the swap you can do your own steering sensor, no programming needed.

That makes sense, but why the new sensor? This one was working on the other car

It has several sensors inside that must line up in one position only. It uses each of them as a check for the rest. If it's not in the dead on position it figures it is getting a false signal from one or more. You can try removing it, turning it 360 in one direction, reinstalling it and going for a test drive if you want but it could still be off. Then you would have to repeat it but do 720 in the opposite direction, but that's assuming the steering wheel only made one turn while it was out. So yes, it can be done, but it will be very time consuming to get it. The SIR coil has a window to tell when it's back in the dead on position. To center that you have to removed it from the column. Turn it until it stops, don't force it or you will break the ribbon inside. Turn it the other direction while counting the turns. Turn it back again half of the amount you counted. There should be a yellow piece in the center of the clear window if you have it centered correctly. Good luck, keep us informed.
