What is up with the grill?

I noticed the grill is different in the Z/28? Both the ZL1 and 1LE did not have any camo on the grill, the Z/28? does. There is also some type of channel on both sides that is completely covered. If this was the LT4 I would expect maximum airflow like the ZL1 design. There certainly is more material in the Z/28? version which leads to the question, why?

that paint job is called razzle dazzle paint... its basically used on cars to get you NOT to see the full shape and design of whatever its painted on...

back in world war 1, the painted ships and planes like this so that the enemy couldn't assess how close or far a ship was to shoot it or send torpedoes...

they are just hiding stuff

I understand the camo and it's use, I am wondering why they did it on this grill and not the others.

The camo on the grill itself is probably either to hide some surfacing effect thats been moulded in (likely just cosmetic, like bowties or Z/28s or something) or they had some spare strips of camo vinyl and wanted to screw with forum freaks like us that scour every detail for weeks on end.

As for the bit around the sides of the opening, my hunch is that they're closing it off a bit for improved aerodynamics.

I think the camo guy had some tape left over and put a little extra on.
Nothing to see here. Move along.

Impoved aero, but loss of cooling air? No FI?

Whoever that engineer is, his/her job is literally to mess with people.

I remember the K2XX IVERs were running around with ovals for badges.

The Z/28 prototype has less air inlets on the corners of its front fascia near the canards than the ZL1 has and this was my first clue to suggest no forced induction on this setup. The grill openings are shaped differently also between the two also hence the camo tape.

Yes, I agree they were so picky on airflow that we got the flow tie. There is definitely more material in the Z/28 grill so reduced air flow. I know it's not a lot but with the cooling issues on the LT4 you would think they would want as much air as they can get. Just seems weird and the channels or whatever they are on the side. So, they are really trying to hide something or just messing with is.

Smaller opening doesn't necessarily mean less air flow. It could create a venturi like effect and increase the velocity of the air flow.

Yeah I'm thinking it's a cosmetic enhancement specific to the Z/28. I'd also lean towards the idea that this adds to the n/a argument since you'd want maximum cooling for the LT4. Although they don't seem to block much airflow, I'd agree they channel air to other parts of the car, be it misc radiators or brake ducts.

I looked at both the Z/28? with the stripes and without and they put the camo on both of them the same?
