If that is the case then there IS a large displacement NA LT1 variant somewhere out there, and if the development has already been done during testing for the Corvette why not put it into something else? A Gen V small block of up to 7.0 liters making around 550hp would be perfect for the Z/28, and it just so happens that the LT1 Gen V small block is capable of handling a stroke of up to 4.125 inches. With the stock bore of 4.065 inches that will give you 427 cu in or 7.0 liters. With DI and the other improvements of the Gen V small block 550hp seems well within reach.
I'm with you on this. Moving to DI and a slight bump in compression and the gen5 heads should get it to 550 hp and the requisite torque increase........And it doesnt really need anymore than that since the car is 150 lbs. lighter or so.
LS7 could have offered more tq and with those updates it could be touching 5-510 tq , add triY headers to the mix and 0-60 should be 3.6 secs or so and handling
will be phenomenal.
