RESULTS AT ECR WITH TRACKWING
Eagles Canyon Results with TRACKWING
Tried out a great new product today called TRACKWING www.trackwing.com. Basically it is a REMOVABLE big assed wing that is 71 inches wide and is TALLER than the roof of our cars. Look below for some pics I took of it yesterday PRIOR to me going to Eagles Canyon. Anyway, I ran a 2.04.56 with the wing at Eagles Canyon today. Look below also for some pics of the Harry's LapTimer info on that run. As near as I can calculate, the wing accounted for about a second reduction in lap time. The next time we go to ECR 2.02-2.03 range will be in the cards because by THAT time AMP will have the car modded have another 120 RWHP (heads and cam). It has 480 RWHP now with mods that have been done to the LT1 currently.

Thanks for sharing! So being removal, is it something you bought or rented?
No detectable challenges with imbalance in downforce front to rear? |

What I DONT know about is whether Zl1 cannards and the larger chin spolier would be beneficial or not vs my smaller chin spoiler. I have been hesitant about that because I personally dont like the way they look. On a side note, I am running E85 and in four 30 minute track sessions, I burned up 33 gallons of fuel so a little less than a half of tank of E85 per each 30 minute session. Burn rate of E85 is roughly 30 per cent faster than regular gasoline. I brought 3 5 gallon jugs with me and the car was full when I started. So I sort of made a rule for myself NOT to start a session with LESS than half a tank. I will say also that the gas tank baffles with the 6th GEN set up are MUCH better than they were with my 5th GEN. With my 5th GEN you could get fuel starvation due to fuel slosh if you had less than a 1/4 tank and a hard corner.

It would have been interesting to have you do a session without it, then with it, back to back.

No it actually has a manual pump up mechanism on each suction cup that helps it to maintain suction and a tethering system that if the wing SHOULD come off it would stay on top of the trunk and NOT hit the ground or the car behind you.

I am very interested in this trackwing. Although I would want some front splitter or aero to compliment it. Anyone know if any front splitter or lip for a 18 SS1LE?

Front splitters are available at your local hardware store for about 40$. just need a marker, a saw and some mounting hardware.

When you did the track day with the wing you said you were about 1sec faster. Did you remove the wing and re install it the same day to determine the difference that the wing accounted for?
Also did you see any dents in the rear trunk lid from the downforce? |

Everything I've ever heard about aero says that increased downforce from a wing (if effective) causes a wind resistance penalty, which decreases top speed on long straights. That's why underbody trays and diffusers became such a great solution (increased suction force - effectively downforce without a drag penalty).
If you aren't having your top speed affected (127 MPH is probably a high enough speed to see a significant drag effect from an effective wing, right?), I'd be doubtful that the wing is providing worthwhile downforce. |
