ZLE Wheel/Tire Setup on Standard ZL1

I have a standard 18 ZL1 and recently picked up a set of ZLE wheels and tires.

I performed the mag ride strut modification to allow for front wheel clearance. I also performed the harness relocate on the left rear, which was simple.

I did not modify the top camber adjustment slot on the mag ride struts.

I did max out the front negative camber adjustment when I did the modification for wheel clearance.

I need to get it aligned to see where I’m at. How much negative camber can be achieved on the standard ZL1?

I do have Vorshlag camber plates on order (back order actually), but I’m not sure that I need them.

About -1.7 up front and about -2.5 Rear. I think that’s plenty for 99.9% of people but I could be wrong.
Good luck on your setup

I could go -2.0 front -1.6 rear no problem with the same setup on my '17 ZL1

Didn’t ZLEs share the same standard alignment as ZL1s? If so, it doesn’t seem to me there would be a reason there would be an issue after the necessary mechanical accommodations.

About -2 in front is plenty. I haven't noticed less understeer with more camber (I am at around -3.2). Its about more even tire side to side wear (at the track). Lap times are more dependent on tires/tire compound. More camber also gets into reduced braking footprint, which matters at some tracks more than others. At COTA I still wear the insides faster because of the high speed straights ending in hair pins. I may reduce camber. For street use you'll just wear the inside and put lopsided wear on the bearings.

I was able to check my camber today with my new Smart Camber gauge. Again, ZLE wheels/tires installed on my standard ZL1. Modified the mag ride struts for wheel clearance, so no spacers used. Max’d out the negative camber. I’m sitting at -2.7 degrees on both sides. I think I will cancel the back ordered Vorshlag camber plates for now.

Well SLICKS if you ever decide to run them LOVE as much camber as you can give them on the front. I run -3.6 on front and -2.5 on rear and I run this on BOTH the street and track. EXCESSIVE toe in and Toe out is what will wear you tires out. I run almost NEUTRAL toe in toe out settings and I have NOT noticed as of yet any uneven wear on my street tires.

PRIOR to me getting the vorshlag plates my MAX setting on FRONT was roughly -2.0 degrees camber and about the same on the rear. To get the additional camber on the rear I am running SPL Toe Links with Eccentric Bolt lockout. This allows INCREASED adjustment in the camber PAST the -2.0 stock setting max. and eliminates the eccentric bolt that loses adjustment consistently when the suspension is taxed anyway. Part number is below.

Good points. I just changed my wheel/tire set up so that would have been the time to go with slicks. I opted for the ZLE setup and will see how that goes. Thanks for the feedback though. I agree with you and may require camber plates in the future.

Here are some photos of the ZLE wheel/tire on my standard ZL1. Camber and toe set to track. No poke up front. Will see how things go next spring before deciding on camber plates.
