Dealer used wrong oil filter

I recently changed my own oil for the first time. My manual states to use the UPF63R oil filter. The one I took off (that the dealer had installed) was a PF64 (specified for the V8 engine).

I assume no harm was caused, but since the UPF63R costs twice as much as the PF64 - is there a difference?

Did some more research, and found some info here https://champfiltration.com/wp-conte...NPI-PH1500.pdf that sounds like maybe it changed partway through the model cycle. Maybe that's why the dealer was still using the old one.

Either way, I'll continue using what the manual calls for currently. Just more curious than anything!

So, the PF63 and PF64 have different bypass valve opening pressure:

As to the difference between a PF63 and a UPF63R...
this thread implies it's still a mystery. But what an effort!

Some people over at bobistheoilguy say the U___R filter series are Mobil 1 filters rebranded as ACDelco.
