Best Lowering Springs

Hey Guys,

I have been looking around for lowering springs without a finding a ton of what I'm looking for until I stumbled across this video:

(Start at 1:52). I love the stance of this car with these H&R lowering springs.

Does anyone have any experience with these? My car does have the Mag Ride so I don't want to screw anything up. I think I found them here? : https://tarmac88.com/products/h-r-18...g-w-mag-ride-1

Anyway... if anyone has any information on these springs, how much do you like them, and is this a decent place to buy them from... if not, where?

Thank you everyone for your time & help!

Basically I want to just get rid of wheel gap. I like the way the car above looks with these springs on it. I was just looking for more info on them and can't find stuff literally anywhere lol. I may just go with them.

I’ve been looking at the YYZ ones. I traded some emails with the guy that came up with them and he had a ton of good info.

The YYZ springs are going to give you a stiffer ride for sure. But they will get rid of a lot of wheel gap. I got into a bit of pogo but that was more due to my shocks and struts having over 50k miles on them when I installed the springs. They work great at the track though, and the guy that gave input and design to make them last (John Powell) really knows his stuff.

He's got plenty of experience with gm products, from vettes, the cobalt/ion twins, and now the camaro.

What would be the right springs to lower the car but retain as close to factory ride quality? I have a 2SS wothout MRC and would love to lower the car some but not sacrifice the stock ride quality.

Here’s a thread discussing H&R springs.

Fundamentally, those goals are mutually exclusive. If you lower the car but don't increase spring rates, you'll have less compression travel in the suspension and you'll bottom the car on the bump stops more often. That both bad for handling and ride quality. To lower a car properly, you must increase spring rate.

It seems like all the aftermarket springs that lower the car also use progressive rates, at least in the rear.* This is not a good way to suspend a car, either. With progressive rates you have four individual corners with wheel rates that change with suspension travel...which means your handling balance is also changing with suspension travel while you drive, and not all at the same time. That's not a good recipe for linear, predictable handling balance! They all promise you a cushy ride as well as amazing handling, but that's not really how a passive suspension works. Besides, damping rates are far more predictive of ride quality than spring rate.

*I would expect that having linear springs up front and progressive rates in the rear would be even worse that having them at all four corners. With this setup, as the car rolls with cornering loads, the outside rear wheel rate will increase. That will cause the handling to become more and more biased toward oversteer with increased cornering loads. In the bad old days of Fox and SN95 Mustangs, we used to call this "Quadrabind," (due to that car's suspension design) and it resulted in infamous snap oversteer. YYZ seems to be the only aftermarket company that publishes its spring rates, and they compare them to OE and several unnamed competitors.. They actually seem to be the only set whose front springs are progressive, whereas most of the rear spring sets are progressive. My guess is that they handle in a more linear fashion because at least both ends of the car have rising rates, vs some of the competitors that only have rising rates in the rear. Note that stock springs are linear at both ends, which is the right way to do things. So is "Brand M" (whoever that is), and it's also a lot stiffer, which is probably what I'd look at if I really wanted to lower the car. But since we don't know what brand that really is, and since no other spring brand on the market publishes its rates, I don't know how the hell anyone can answer the OP's question.

I ran the Phastec spring on my 16 SS and they were awesome. I just bought a 2022 Lt1 and I'm hoping they didn't change anything and I'll be able to run them again on this new Camaro. I'm pretty sure they are but will find out tomorrow. If so thats what I'll buy again.

Talked to BMR today and the Lt1 uses the same springs as the SS so good to go.

Hey krops, did the YYZ springs significantly alter the factory ride quality?

I just ordered the Phastek again for my 2022. Should be here Friday and will install them sometime next week depending on the weather. I always liked the ride and handling of the Phastek plus the stance was awesome.
