Higher Octane Gas-94 Octane-Austin Area
Has anyone stumbled upon any gas stations that have higher Octane rated gas than 93? I was looking for 94 Octane the other weekend, but could not find it anywhere. Sunoco sometimes offers 94 Octane, but none of the locations I visited had it.
I did stumble upon a QT near me that has 90 Octane, ZERO ethanol gas, which I've not seen before. I'll try this out in my truck since it requires 89 Octane.

Not in the Houston area. You can manually add a bit of E85 to "splash blend" 5% E85 with 95% 93 octane (E10) to get almost E15 which is the max amount of ethanol the car should run on the stock tune according to the manual.
That would get you 93.75 to 93.95 octane assuming E85 octane of 108 or 112 respectively. But actual ethanol content can vary from 51% to 83% so there is not an officially advertised octane number at the E85 pump. It would be interesting to see if the car picks up any power on a dyno between 93 octane E10 and ~E15 splash blend but it would be difficult to control for all variables. Buc-ee's in Texas City near Galveston has ethanol free 92 octane gas (but it was about 30% more expensive than 93 octane E10 when I saw it last summer) which would get you about 94.4 to 95 octane if splash blended with 15% E85. You might also be able to find ethanol free premium gas near lakes since it is commonly used for marine engines. Last edited by cdrptrks; 08-03-2021 at 01:25 PM. |

Thanks for the tips. I'll poke around near Lake Travis to check. I know of one particular gas station that might be worth pulling into.

on stock tune you won't see more power, unless you are currently having knock then it would be more power due to less kr but not more then stock with no knock. just buy 93 from a quality brand, unless you plan to get a tune but even then 93 vs 93.75 I doubt would be more power.
