Angry Rough Shift And Thud Going From Park To Reverse!!!!!

I just got my 2017 Camaro 2017 back in Sept, with 14000 miles on it. It now has 21000 and about 2 weeks ago, I noticed it jerking and making a thud sound when I shifted from Park into Reverse, or even into Drive! Took it to the dealer, tech tried to say this was “normal”...I got into the car with him and demonstrated and sure enough, that hard jerk and thud, over and over again...he just said “oh ok”....wtf? So the service guy said he ordered a valve body, and that should fix the problem...I’m not familiar with transmissions so idk what the hell he’s talking about, just from what I’ve learned in here and google...anyone heard of this fixing the issue with hard shifts and shudders? Oh...and the car started hesitating and sometimes shifting really rough from first to second...

There are two service bulletins that apply to your problem, 16-NA-404 and 18-NA-355 (this one was updated several times between 2016 and 2018), see attached.

Visit the dealer again and tell them you have a complaint, take some hints from these TSB's. They should perform the necessary service for you, and set the transmission to relearn mode, which will erase previous bad behavior.

Hopefully your symptoms will cease right after the application of 18-NA-355, which should be done ASAP anyway.

It is not normal. I had the shudder and the P to D or P to R jerkiness, after they did the newest fluid flush and reprogrammed the TCM, everything has been fixed and working great! Have about 3500 miles on it since.

Thanks for the help guys...I’ll print out the bulletins and take them with me...so I’m guessing when they change the valve body, they are going to have to flush the tranny, correct? And most likely re flash my tcm....do u think if I install my trifecta tune, It will mess everything up?

By the way, how long was your car in the shop? Dealer said they could have the valve body installed in one day, this sat....which is a half
Day for them....y’all think their out of their mind?

Having a custom TCM tune on the car won't help you, to put it mildly, but no reflash is required for this procedure.

The flush job physically takes about 1.5-2 hours in my experience, even with the usual wait times and a bit of overhead added. Not sure about the valve body, but if the transmission has to be pulled and disassembled, half a day is not realistic.

Good info Arpad, dropped it off on Friday night and it’s Sunday today! Won’t get it back until probably Tuesday...spoke to trifecta, said I should be good to install tune after repairs are made...tech said no material in the oil pan so that’s good right? Well I’m sure they fill it up with the new fluid right?

Yeah, that's good news about the torque converter clutches

The correct fluid part number is 19417577, name is "Mobil 1 Synthetic LV ATF HP", check your invoice before you leave to make sure they gave your girl the correct juice.

Bad news, it’s Tuesday and my car isn’t done...yesterday they said they had changed the valve body but could get it to “learn” the shift points because it was too cold and they couldn’t get the fluid to the right temp to put the tcm into learning mode...now today they said that they after attempting to have the tcm learn the shifts, the new valve body wasn’t going to solve the issue and they might have a bigger problem in their hands so they now they needed to contact GM about what course of action to take and open up a case.....wtf! OH...and NOW they wanna give me a loaner car...after I’ve already spend 300 on a rental these past 4 days...Chevy...get ur s%#! together!

Sounds like they are clueless! My dealer had my car for a few days to drain/fill with the new Mobil 1 fluid and reprogram the TCM, no issues since. If they can't get their crap together I would take it somewhere else.

Curious as to why this is only affecting 2017 model year vehicles. Did GM do something different for the 2016/2018 vehicles?

So, heard back from the dealer today, GM engineers responded with a bunch of testes, which none of them worked, so they are going to replace the transmission and torque converter...they’re giving me a spark as a loaner too...for a WHOLE MONTH! What!!!!

So guys, now my transmission and torque converter showed up three days ago and was installed yesterday. Problem is that in order to "train" it, it has to be at a certain temp....tech said cold. So every time they tested it, it refused to program, and they would try over and over again , the car would get hot and they would have to wait for it to cool down. Well, the tech said he couldn't figure out what was wrong, and said he would have to call GM engineers again to figure out if he needs some kind of other programming code or what not...I asked him what he thought it could be and he said...."electromagnetic interference" WTF! Said it could be an amplifier or a alarm system with gps, or even parking in front....get this....Home Depot! Said the radio frequencies from employee walkie talkies causes peoples Chevrolets to not want to start...WTF do I do??????
