Information for a future ZL1 owner
Hey guys, I have decided to get a ZL1 in a year or two to have as my fun car. I had a C6 Z06 but when the family grew to 3 it hardly ever got used, so I sold it with the intention of getting a sports car with 2 extra seats down the road. I plan on getting a 2017 or newer ZL1 with the 6 speed and without the 1LE package. What differences, if any, are there for each year? Would you recommend looking for one year over another? Is there anything you dislike about your ZL1? What is your favorite part of owning a ZL1? Are there any common problems to watch out for when buying?

Seems like the newest LT4s don't have any oil pump issues. The later cars have updated graphics in the cluster and a better center screen. So in my opinion the newer the better...'19 & up.

The back seat isn't very usable for passengers. I would definitely try one out to see if it will work for you. I can't imagine trying to deal with a car seat in one.

My son just turned 10, so no car seats and he knows his comfort isnt a priority lol. I did things non-traditionally and it was just my son and I when I bought the vette. After getting married now there is a needy lady living with us that wants to tag along all the time

To be honest the back seats in the 6th gens are useless. My front seat rests on the rear seat. There is maybe a millimeter of space between the back of my seat and the rear seat.

Back seats are useless. And avoid the 1LE unless you plan on tracking it often. The mag ride ZL1s are just as incredible, and ride significantly smoother for a street/family car.

Wow didn't realize they were that small! I figured they would be similar to the 97 Z28 I had back in highschool. I will have to try to check one out this summer to see if it will work for us!

Normally I always get the highest performance version possible when buying a car but I am avoiding the 1LE for this exact reason.

Nope, myself having 4 fbodies, I considered those seats small but at least able to put a woman in the back. You can't even fit a paraplegic midget in the back of the 6th gen.

These previous replies are either grossly exaggerating, people recline their seats all the way for the gangsta lean, they weigh 250+ lbs or they have 5-foot legs or something.
Granted, I wouldn't call the rear legroom or headroom ample or very comfortable for an adult on long drives, but I have 3 kids, ages 9 through 14, and they are just fine in the back seat even behind me. I am 6' 2" and 195 lbs. All that said, definitely check a ZL1 out personally at a local dealership to see how the legroom situation feels to you and your family specifically. (This is about the coupe, by the way , I don't know for sure if the convertible has the same rear legroom, but its overall dimensions are the same, so I'd wager it does.)

I have a full size kid's car seat and a booster seat in the back of mine. I transport my 5 and 7 year old children around just fine. However, if there is a from seat passenger, the car seat on the rear passenger side makes for a tight fit due to the requirement that the passenger seat be moved forward quite a ways.

I’m 6’2” 210ish lbs with what I’d consider to be a pretty normal torso/leg ratio. I’d approximate the current gap between the seat back—>back seat foot well to be ~2”, and I’d bet that gap decrease if I actually sat in the car. My car is an M6, so my seat is exactly where I prefer it to be to comfortably operate all 3 pedals. In my previous A10 ZL1 (which was amazing too BTW), I had the seat back even further.

I'm 5'11" but whenever we would be driving with 3 in the car my son would be sitting behind my wife who is 5'3" so it will probably be ok. Still will check one out at a dealership to confirm though. Besides the back seats being small/tiny are there any other things that have bugged you about the car? Only other real complaint I've seen is rear visibility, which also isn't great on the car I have now (Taurus SHO). Thank you all for the replies so far!
