Going to service department tomorrow.
Before you go to dealer for service, give a fairly decent push down on the trunk lid then try to reopen it.

I posted the following in the other thread about the brake light. Seems like there is more action on this thread so I'm going to ask here too:

Several folks have reported scratching the paint when prying the light out. Was wondering if anyone had tried to remove the clips from the trunk and just shove the light out from inside the trunk. Without doing any prying or seal breaking from the outside. Seems like it should be possible. Hopefully someone has tried it and can report the results before I possibly waste my time trying to do it.
Thanks

I'm not saying there should be penalties for stupidity,
but why don't we just take the warning labels off everything and let the problem solve itself.

I've done 2 so far. Not one scratch or chip. I used a plastic pry tool and 2 strips of painters tape. It isn't very difficult. Don't use anything metal. You'll be fine.

You can almost use your finger nails, don't sweat it, no scratches here either. taking apart your trunk liner is more trouble than it needs to be. I did not even use tape, just used the pry tool under the light only, did not even touch the visible paint, push the pry tool in between the light and twist it lightly, going around, it will come out easy.

No offense guys, but that doesn't answer my question. I would like to know if anyone has just shoved the light out from inside the trunk. Without doing any prying or seal breaking from the outside. If I can remove the light from the inside I would like to do so. But if I have to tape it up and use trim tools, I have them on my workbench ready to go.

BTW - Sledgehammer's video is better than the RP version.

I'm not gonna pull those liner clips unnecessarily. They usually don't hold as good afterwards. Good luck.

I have a large container of those clips in assorted sizes. Picked them up from Amazon for about $30 a couple of years ago. When I installed the dark tail lights I replaced two clips that got damaged.

I installed mine by undoing the 4 screws in the back of the light and pushing it out from behind. Worked fine and didn't have to worry about scratches.

Awesome. Just what I wanted to hear.

We can now put the controversy to rest. At least three methods of removing the stock light exist.

Worked like a charm. Removed just the two center screws and clips and just pushed it out. It did take a little muscle, but no worries. A working alternative method of 3rd brake light removal. Again.................

I watched FlynnZL1 video and decided to try his way. I used a thin library card to break the seal around the original brake light. In a mattter of 2-3 min (if that) i had it out.

Cleaned it up installed a new one and looks great.

Thats the best way to do it, without a doubt.
