Just wondering, how many miles did you have when you felt the transmission starting to shudder? Is this a problem with specific model years or just in the a8 in general?

You may be the only one, but I would take it to the dealer since its under warranty and see if they'll have a tech ride with you.

Took my car in today, drove with the shops forman and he said it was the togue converter and they had to do the flush. Actually my service guy outside told me that 1st, then the foreman told me it. They were pretty busy and since i had to have that and my conv top plastic pieces fixed they gave me a loaner. Il keep ya updated when i get it back

I have been experiencing similar problems as you've described. I had my A8 transmission shutter fluid flush done about 15,000 miles ago. I now have 40K miles. I've had jerky, stalling, and generally rage inducing transmission behavior for the last 10K miles. I am wondering if the ticking noise might be a fuel vapor purge valve. I know these are duty cycle solenoids and they are well known to be noisy, but I've not heard them be this noisy before. At any rate, it seems to be the same frequency as most purge valves I've heard, but much louder.

For the transmission issue, it seems to happen to me when the trans fluid is cold and the vehicle has just been started. If I am pulling out of a parking lot I hit the gas and the car seems to lunge forward, then immediately stall its forward motion. This forces my body to lunge forward independently of the car in a weird way. It's like the car threw me forward and then stopped.

After this happens, I get a similar feeling when the car is downshifting and I am slowing down. It's very bad in stop-and-go traffic. I feel a lot of jerkiness as the car is downshifting. It will downshift, jerk, stop abruptly, then jerk again. It's something I have just been living with because the last time I had it in for this issue the techs said they could not duplicate it.

A bit different from you, though, I have been recently using the paddles to shift my own gears and I find I do it much more smoothly than the automatic programming does. I have only tried it twice, but I don't experience the jerkiness or stalling phenomena when I am changing the gears myself.

Rattle Problem solved: i posted on here about a rattle coming from inside of the dash. The dealership took apart my whole dash and found that it was a speaker located in the center of the dash that does not have enough padding under it from factory, so the speaker rattles around constantly. Fix was to take the whole thing apart and take the speaker apart and put styrofoam under the speaker. Problem solved!

Another issue i didnt mention is that the A/C/Heat unit would make a clicking sound when turning on or off. Fix: Lubed the vent itself after taking the dash apart. I have the unit description if anyone wants the details.

Why do you lift off the gas when shifting up from 1st to 2nd? It's not a clutch! Just keep your foot on the gas as you shift up through the gears.

Well, one reason would be before the engine has warmed. Another would be to not waste gas. Another would be to slow the rate of acceleration.

The computer controls throttle during paddle shifts. Trying to out-think it by completely lifting during the shift just disrupts things.

and dont forget the crackles and pops when you do that.. but I was focusing more on the downshifts. Those jolt the entire car from 4th to 3rd, 3rd to 2nd.. the rest are all ok all the way from 8-7-6-5-4.

Just beat a charger scatpack in my almost all stock SS. kinda stoked since this was my first race with another v8. my car walked on his 2x. Did 2 50 rolls. First time I started late and caught up and passed him all within about 1/4 mile. 2nd time I just smoked him. No problems with the shifts. Extremely fast
