Mark me down as another oil pump victim. 24k miles. 2018 ZL1. Build date 11/2017

Running fine. Drove home. Parked. Came back to head out for dinner, fired it up waiting to warm up and BAM now oil pressure message turn off engine.
Shut off engine and immediately checked oil dipstick, no flakes or glitter. Engine was actually running quite smooth given the low oil pressure.

Gonna get a local guy here get his hands into it vs sending it down to the lower 48 to get a dealership to possibly not even work on it.

I did make a post a few months ago about my oil psi at hot idle being 20psi. So friends. If you notice your oil pressure at hot idle hovering in the 20psi range. That's your first sign!

Any other oil pump failure out there who just replaced pump and went on their way? I know when the engines torn apart to look for signs of oil starvation, but I think thankfully since I shut it off and it was at idle I should be okay.

Are you saying you are not going to have The dealer repair under warranty ? I can assure you that after I had mine warranty repaired...you will spend many thousands of dollars on the repair to have someone do it .. just a heads up. It is a big job.

Have you tried contacting GM? This is a known problem at this point and you shouldn’t need to eat the bill. Maybe you can get them to approve a local shop to do the warranty work if you don’t have a GM shop within a reasonable distance. No idea if they will do it but as the last post mentioned it’s a pretty expensive job so it seems like it would be worth the try.

Yep, just a thread almost 2 yrs old, just trying to see if there has been any updates to that 2017 build year spread and if there was actually a "change" that we know of.

Yes I believe that is correct. The model year 2018 cars that where built in 2017 seem to be the problems. I think there are even a few 2017 built in late 2016 that had a few failures too. I have not read or seen a car built in 2018 yet affected. Lets hope it stays like that.

I think they didn’t change the design of the pump, whatever the MY is....
May be the oil
5w30 to 0w40
Other than that, What is the difference between a 17 early 18 and a >19?

there is a mention that the pump part number DID change. Even a mention it went through 3 changes, but I did not read the other part numbers. Just saw 2 different ones.

Stupid question. I have a 2018 ZL1, build date 8/17. What is the warranty on the oil pump? I only have around 3k miles but my 3 year will be coming up this fall.
