I was wondering if that was possible. It seems I can pause it and resume it. I imagine it wouldn't know or care that I swapped filament but I can see how the timing would be really tough.

It's not perfect -- more of a proof of concept. This is in "Fine" mode but there are still some things I can do to improve it. I want the textured look but there are a few small blemishes I think I can work out with a few more tries. Unfortunately each batch takes all day to print.

Props for the attempt and playing with newer tech, cute kid too!

Somethings are easier to just buy, especially with your income Mr. Moneybags . A quick search on eBay for 1LE emblems turned up a nice selection, $25 can get you a pair that honestly look better without the background. $100 and you be stylin all day long. That said, it’s your car so do what you want.

Yeah I actually was super lucky, the blue filament was almost out and I only had black on hand so I paused and gently swapped it.

Hey. Nice little project here.

If you want something really smooth but with a grainy effect (super even) you can try some SLS 3D printing. Machines are more for business but you can get in touch with one of them (I know Stratasys is making it and it is in California... I know someone there is you need a little hint...). Instead of a filament, it is powder that is melted with a laser and it only melts what will become your part. The rest of the powder acts like support m I had few test pieces made and I'd go with that (painted) over filament material.

I'll keep watching this as I am interested to see what the result is!

He already mentioned that he didn't find any of the size he wanted haha.

And with the money he makes... He can pay the big price of making it himself and that wouldn't make a hole in his budget as opposed to us haha.

I did find some stuff on ebay but nothing the right size or color combination, etc.

I actually like the background, I feel like the fender is too bare and I'm trying to add some detail too it and fill up a bit of space without looking tacky.

I think I want to try it just for fun. It would be very useful if I can get good at it.

The printer is programmable. I've considered learning the programming language so that I could deliberately have it print one color, then pause for me to swap the filament then resume another color, then back and forth etc.

It will be a lot of work but it can lead to much cooler prints.

I think I want to try printing some toys for my daughter and I'd rather print her toys in color rather than paint them. She's going to be 3 so paint doesn't last long

EDIT: 3 hours later ... I've just taught myself how to program in G-Code, the 3d printer instruction generated by the slicer (Cura). I can now modify the print instructions to pause and resume a print at any layer I want. I should be able to color mix and match now. I even added instructions to print some garbage on the side of the printer to flush out the previous color material still in the nozzle

I'll check it out. It sounds like a cool idea.

I wish I was a programmer to so I could easily modify everything that way haha.

Nice job !
