Track Set Up suggestions

Hi All,

Background:
Been a while since I posted. I took your advice and worked on the driver mod - been spending more time driving the car than browsing the forum.

I am now running in the advanced run groups for my track days HPDE and been dabbling in instructing this past season. That said, it is time to replace my current MMR 20" track tire & rim set up. I am worried they're not going to stand up to the abuse I put on them, plus they have a lot of track miles already - ready to retire them before a catastrophic failure. I am running a 2018 SS with the GM lowering kit and sway bar kit along with some other non-important to list mods for this topic.

My Ask of You:
Rims:
I now know the folly of my ways - I plan to go with 18 or 19" rims and wanted some suggestions. I want to stay around $4K for the rims, but can flex if needed. Can you offer some suggestions for advanced driver, track-worthy rims. I'm more worried about durability than either looks or weight. Weight is important, but not primary.

I do also want some suggestions on the biggest size I can fit. I am running the SS 1LE big brakes up front (not the ZL1), so I am a little concerned with the 18" - does that work?
Either way, what is the widest I can fit, front and rear for either 18" or 19"?

Tires:
I've been running Toyo RRs and they've treated me well. I am not competing, so I don't plan on jumping to Hoosiers R7 or A7, but I am open to other options now that other options will be open to me (not many choices in the 20" tire market). Based on the fitment above, please give some good track suggestions (not really interested in streetable options - I am already running PS4S on my street rims).

Thanks in advance crew!

Track alignment makes a noticeable difference.

I have a write up with data on the comparison in my journal about wheels/square setup.

Alignment also makes a huge difference.

Yes , adding more negative camber makes the most improvement and is cheapest.

Check with Apex Racing wheels. I personally think the OEM Goodyears on the 1LE's are fantastic all around on track and street. They only last about 10-12k miles with a few weekend trackdays and daily driving though.

No substitute for forged wheels. OEM are high quality (1LE or ZL1 1LE) and have the right offsets although not square. I have bent the webbing in aftermarket "flow formed" just with track use.

This is exactly the type of issue I am trying to better understand - spoke stability for track car driven close to limit.

I know Apex has a decent reputation on this forum, but they are a pretty low load rating for a forged wheel at 1600lbs. I am concerned with that because I am running semi slick (Toyo Proxes RR) and regularly get into the 1.1-1.2g in turns. This is a significant load transfer on a heavy car.

I am trying not to spend nearly 10K on wheels and tires, which is where most of the other forged wheels will land at (~$1700/wheel x4 and ~$400/tire x4 = ~$9,200 for a full set). 1st world problems I know, but if I can be safe with the Apex forged, then I am closer to $5k and that is more palatable.

So that is a core question for the track people here - can I safely run Apex forged rims (1600lb load capacity per wheel) if I am pulling 1.1-1.2g

If the answer is no, what would be the minimum load rating I need for my track rims?

Zero factor. I routinely see way more than that on my forged and non forged Apex wheels.

Doubt you'll have any problems with Apex. If you do, they have a half-off warranty. Legit company that primarily serves the track community.
