USB and Aux ports on 2023 2LT

So, I've tried searching and didn't really see what I wanted.

I've traded in my 12 for a new 2023 2LT and there a 2 USB and one AUX port in the console, but when I plug my iPod in either USB they do charge the iPod but not show up in the infotainment option. When I move it to AUX, the AUX does show in the infotainment screen, but nothing happens when I select that option.

My question is, are both the USBs supposedly data ports or is one or both just a charging port? I'm using the same cable I used in the old car and it worked perfectly. Plug in, select iPod and listen away. Does the new car need to "Learn" the iPod so it takes a while to come up?

I KNOW I can dump all my music to my phone and listen through car play, but I don't like having all that extra stuff on my phone. Prefer to just keep the music separate. Other option, if I use an old deactivated iPhone, can I still get calls and stuff hands free on the active phone while music is going from the old one?

I've had the car 3 days, so I'll definitely be playing with more of the settings, but thought I'd ask here first. The manual read like it's a simple plug and play, and I've plugged but nothing is playing. Just want to make sure there isn't some quirky unpublished "trick" I'm missing.

What gen iPod? Note that the only files supported are mp3, AAC, OGG, and 3GP.

The AUX input should work but you'll have to control the sound from the iPod, including volume.

Doesn't matter, I have several floating around the house and I've tried Nano 7th gen, very old nano 2nd gen that I had in the old car, and a little shuffle. Thought they were all MP3 or ACC format, but I'll have to double-check. There's one left that I'm charging up now, a fairly newer touch one of the grandkids had, pre cell phone that is my last hope for separate music. Otherwise I'll just cave and dump everything to my phone. I did dump a few songs and tested out that functionality and that works.

Really liking the new car, but the external music functionality and steering controls were better on the old one.

Just dump the tracks to a USB thumbdrive and they will work perfectly. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that the new cars aren't iPod compatible as it's such a rare occurrence and the focus is on Apple Carplay instead. The iPod doesn't act like a thumbdrive.
