Painted ‘22 SS 1LE Roof Black

I never thought I would do something like this to a brand new car but I Wanted to do something to set my car apart a little. I am really happy with the result. Thought I would share.

From what I can see, it looks great…although need better pictures from above showing the whole car (front view). So a few questions:

1. Did they remove the antenna to paint, or paint in place?
2. How much did it cost?

I really like the idea, and yes indeed it sets your car apart from others.

I love it. I would even go with a gloss black hood now rather than the stock matte. either way job well done.

Thanks for the compliments. We did remove the antenna and sunroof. I am fortunate in the cost being very low being I sell automotive paint and employ the painter. I’ll look into what the charge for a customer would have been. I like the look of the hood and think the black roof just brings out all the black trim that much more. When we painted the ZL1 rockers we went with the semi gloss color specific to the 1LE to keep the factory look. The whole car has three coats of ceramic and two coats of silica carbide which makes everything really pop and keeps it’s protected. Cquartz also makes a product for the vinyl wrap which really makes hood look amazing and also protects it. I will get a better pic from the front of the car and post it.

I like the look! The pictures were also helpful for me to visualize my upcoming cosmetic project. I have an appointment lined up to wrap my hood, roof, and trunk lid (but not the RS blade spoiler) with satin black.

I was on the fence about the trunk lid. However, the picture showing how the black roof kind of blends into the rear window makes me think the trunk lid would tend to blend in the same way.

Agreed, the roof actually looks like one big piece of glass at many angles, cannot tell the sunroof is there. I was on the fence about Matt or gloss with the roof.
If I was doing a wrap I may have gone with the matt but with it being painted I didn’t want to have to deal with the mat finish with bird crap. Much harder to maintain. You must post some pics once you’re done with you project!

Wait, you can get a sunroof on a 1LE now? Ive been under a rock I guess.

Looks great. I have been thinking about the same as some of the comments here. Too much orange on the top. Do I do a satin wrap mohawk? Or just paint the antenna to break it up a bit? I wont go full roof myself.

Love what you did JP. With the glass, the gloss works well. It would have taken me a year to make that decision. nice work! Thanks for posting, I love when guys put a visual to the options I am thinking about.
