Oil Consumption
Followed the 500mi break-in procedure for my 1SS 1LE. Changed the oil, and when I checked the oil at 1500mi, it was shy of a quart low.
Now at 4k miles, it's a quart low again. So first quart was needed after just 1k mile, 2nd quart is needed after 2500 miles. At least the interval between needing to add a quart is increasing and hopefully it'll continue. With that being said, a quart every 2500mi doesn't seem too bad. Is anyone else having to add oil in between service intervals? Car isn't tracked, and the engine gets redlined at least once or twice every time it goes out only when it's fully warmed up. |

I don't believe it's normal, my car doesn't burn any oil as far as I can tell.
I track my car 90% of the time. It's at 6800 miles right now. First 1500 miles were break in, and the 5300 miles about 4000 miles are on the track. I'm changing the oil roughly every 16 or 17 track hours, maybe about 1000 miles per oil change, so I may not be seeing any oil usage because I change it so often. |

my car used about the same amount of oil (1qt/4k) until it got around 10k miles on it, then it stopped. i think normal driving takes longer to fully break the engine in. i wouldn't worry too much unless it gets worse or does not significantly slow oil consumption.

I have just over 60,000 miles on my M1SS1LE and I've never had to add oil.

LT1s do burn a little oil there's some leakdown there(?) and Ive seen a puff at the tailpipe on startup with my 18 1LE, and I've seen smoke on my 23 LT4 now. But it was never an eye popping amount between oil changes maybe 1qt. I'm only a few months and 34XX miles now on the LT4, two oil changes.

Just asking.....did you check the level before draining? Or are you measuring by what you recovered on draining?
You will have ~1 quart less coming out. I notice this every oil change, however, when checking the level before draining, I am NOT down a quart. Maybe a 1/2 quart if that, as many as 4K miles between changes. I appears to be down a quart on changing, but it isn't. This also includes what I recovered from the filter. I always end up with 9 quarts to recycle. |

45k miles on a 2ss. Does not drop oil between changes, which are basically annual because I follow the oil life monitor (and it times out before mileage becomes a factor). I alternate between Valvoline and Castrol 5W-30's, full synthetic. Whichever is cheaper on Amazon when I buy.
