Good god! Can I get some SUPPORT
So I’m trying to find the trunk lid supports for my 2017 2SS coupe. Rock auto, GM Parts Giant, Genuine GM parts, GMparts2u, you name it. They all have different numbers.
My stock supports have stenciled right on them “84110661”, and those have apparently been replaced by 84593815 according to GM parts giant. Yet go anywhere else to look that replacement number up, and you come across numbers like “ 23151209” at genuine GM parts, or other variations. I can’t find any data other than gmpartsgiant that the OE number has been replaced… and when you are at https://www.chevroletpartsdirect.com...and-components (Genuine GM?), you get w/spoiler, unless RS package, and type 2 or type 3 spoiler. Blah blah blah. WTAF. Go ahead and try to find info on the different types of spoilers and what they look like based on their “TYPE”. This seems to be an effort in futility. I just want some f-ing supports man. Rock auto doesn’t sell them using ANY OEM part number, and their off-brand replacements don’t really tell you application very well. Maybe I need more coffee this morning, but dang, has anyone experienced this? Is there something I don’t know where they replaced ALL trunk lid supports with one part number, maybe the 23151209 number? Photos are of current support part number and the type of spoiler I have. Type 1, type 2, or type 3… I have no idea.

Yeah, this "type 1, type 2, 1st design, 2nd design" etc. thing happens all the time with various parts.
I'd do two things, first of all check the fitment guide section at these pages, if you see your car listed, it's a 99.9% guarantee it will fit, and even if you don't, the part may still fit and could be missing from the guide due to incomplete information. Second, you can just trot into the parts department at a local dealership and get 100% accurate replacement information based on your VIN. Never had a problem doing this myself, guess it's a perk of having a good relationship with one's dealer.

Thanks brother, I appreciate it. I get what you’re saying… still not definitive. I understand why they have different ones (I guess), since the weight of the trunk will be different with, say, my style, versus one of the lighter low profile blades. Seems they’d just make one regardless of the spoiler. I imagine that verts get something different as well.
What I was really hoping for is someone who has been through this butt-pain already, and figured it out with new struts and can point me in the right direction. Otherwise I guess I’ll just order one of the two listed at the one website, and exchange them if they aren’t correct. The 2022 model 2SS Coupe has my OE part number with the exception of the very last digit. 84110662

I hear you, indeed some definitive information would be very nice. That said, these struts cost only $10 a piece, I'd probably just gamble and get a pair of 84110662's, then hopefully call it a day
All these spoilers weigh next to nothing and provide nearly the same downforce except the ZL1 1LE wing, which calls for a reinforced (heavier) trunk lid. Thus IMO 2 different strut designs are justified, but if I were gm, I wouldn't complicate things and increase cost with more than that...

Take one off and go to Napa, they will match it up. It doesn't need to be OEM GM buys these by the truckload.

Does NAPA have a way to validate the "strength" of them? If they don't provide the right amount of lift assist, it will interfere with how the deck lid operates.

Personally I would go with the replacement part number that you got from the GM parts giant and not stress out over all the other part numbers listed! I have had to do this a few times over the years with my GM cars and 1500 Silverado that is 17 years old. With Camaro being phased out by GM, you will find this will be a common occurrence as the parts in the system are depleted and we will have to use parts that are cross referenced as replacements.

Personally I would only go OEM - not only have their struts passed durability testing, but the gas/force inside is specifically tuned to the weight of the trunk lid, not sure if aftermarket can claim that. Wrong gas/force and you get a truck that slams back when you open it or doesn't open enough.
As for PNs - highly recommend your local Chevy dealer's Parts Dept - they can sort out exactly what the PN history is in their system that is tied into the GM databases. Last edited by discgolf01; 10-31-2022 at 06:15 PM. |

The info you have is accurate.
Here is the history: 23151209 --> 84110661 --> 84593815. When I search GMPartsDirect (should show the same results as other GM warehouses), I get this part number - 23210903. If you order from one of these sites, provide your VIN to ensure a good fit. https://www.gmpartsdirect.com/oem-pa...210903?c=bT0x\ |

I checked them physically against a stock one I had removed, and they matched… SO, I installed them in the parking lot, and the lift is proper. It lifts the trunk lid with minimal effort and does what it’s suppose to do after the first inch of travel. So, can confirm… 84593815 is indeed the part number they sold me and which I installed. Good to go. UPDATE: for what it’s worth. I am the original owner, and these have never been replaced. My VIN Serial # is over 100000, and the OEM part I removed was 84110661 ALSO: My style spoiler, shown above in photos, is RPO code: D5Z (SPOILER RR, STANCHION) ALSO #2: If you go to the parts department of your dealership, and give them your VIN, they will print a list of RPO codes your car came with when built… so you don’t have to dig around in back to find it. (If digging isn’t your thing)

I've had good luck with lift support depot. I was able to get more heavy duty hatch shocks for a Veloster Turbo with an after market wing.
