Minor rant- so I made it over one year with a couple paint chips

Then today as I turned right on a major road near my house a massive Duramax proceeded to go by on my left. The guy floored floored it right when he got next to me and took off spewing exhaust and rocks everywhere. Hood wrap took most of the damage, but there are a few chips in the fron bumper and on all four quarter panels. Already touched a couple but it doesn’t look good. Arggggghhh.

The ones that tick me off the most are those raised/lifted bro trucks with chunky offroad tires and no rear mudflaps

I've been able to save the paint so far, for the most part, but there seem to be more of these than before. Of course, me paying more attention probably also contributes to the sensation.

These guy was insanely aggressive. He probably got up to 100 in a 45, and he was weaving in and out of traffic as if he was in a Miata. Sure wish a cop had been in the area. Oh well.

In my experience, 9 out of 10 pickup truck drivers drive like they are trying to compensate for something with a truck. Company/moving trucks don't count.

Uggh, definitely feel your pain.

I had a similar experience 5 months after taking delivery. Car was perfect to that point - I had added splash guards and larger PPF pieces in front of the rear wheels just after delivery - and had no nicks/chips anywhere. On a rare day when I drove the car to work, I got behind a pickup with a trailer holding a lawn tractor. It was on a 2-lane suburban road 35 mph, and I thought about pulling over to increase the distance between us because I could see that the trailer was bouncing around. But I didn't do it, he hit a bump in the road ahead of me, and the trailer tire threw a rock maybe half the size of a golf ball. I could see it coming like it was in slow motion, heard it hit the front bumper, and it was just sickening. I was immediately angry with myself for not pulling over.

I bought the OEM ACDelco touch-up paint in the 4-in-1 applicator bottle - abrasive tip, paint pen, brush, and clear coat. Also bought the Langka blob eliminator - essentially the same thing as the Dr. Colorchip blending solution. After filling the chip with paint and letting it dry a few hours, the blob eliminator softens the paint so you can remove the top layer and make a level repair. I used the abrasive tip on the touch-up applicator to smooth the rough edges of the chip before painting. Then I used a 000 artist paint brush to fill the chip with the ACDelco touch-up. Nex day I applied the clear coat, and then after a week or so, I polished the repair to finish it off. It came out great. Unless it's pointed out, it's hard to notice. I've had similar results with Dr. Colorchip.

The bro dozer was definitely trying to damage your car. It's one thing to roll coal, but another thing entirely to kick up rocks and debris on purpose to damage your car.

I have the same delco kit, but not the blob epilator. Will have to try it. Thanks!

100%. He was driving normally until he caught up to me. What a Richard!

This is exactly why I had PPF done on mine, immediately after delivery.

Install a Dash Cam for the future. Show the situation, capture the plate, and press charges (or at least file through your insurance). Be sure to NOT TOUCH the camera (or any installed card), though, until you can at least talk to your insurance and / or the cops - they may not accept any video footage as evidence unless it was copied off of the camera by someone that can sign off on chain of custody.

I recommend the Dr ColorChip method where you dab and smear the paint then rub it out with the supplied solvent. Best stuff I've ever used.

Exactly, I can not underestimate how important PPF has become on protecting the leading edges of your vehicles. I haven't driven my zl1 since I brought it home and im in the process of paint correction before applying the PPF.
