R888Rs are not a very good tire, old R888s were a decent R comp to learn on and they served well as a rain tire but the R888Rs lost that rain capability. NT01s are definitely superior to these, but a very old design. But neither of these rank very high IMO.

Yes RE-71Rs have much better grip (ran consistent 1:48 at Fontana ROVAL in 265/35/18 on my Evo X street RE-71Rs) but poor size choices. The best balance of cost/grip DOT R comps for my Evo X were Hankook TDs in 285/30/18 square, but they only go up to 295/30/18--no 19s. The best DOT track tires for our cars are Hoosier R7s, but too costly and hard to find take-offs in 19". That's why I'm getting 18" track wheels in 11" square, same setup used on the Camaro GT4.R--cant be too bad if that's what they use.

2 to 4 seconds on how long of a lap?

Excellent thread btw!

Based on data I've seen on other forums, I would expect the NT01 to be slower than the 3R by 1-2 seconds per minute of lap time.

Thunderhill, roughly a 1:55 lap.

Following.....

Point of reference for Goodyear Supercar 3's (not R) on a normal ZL1 with -2.4 front camber, -1.6 rear camber:
*7 track days and 5000 miles out of the fronts, Rears were replaced twice (same period)
*A new set of Goodyear Supercar 3's (not R) resulted in a 2 second drop at Carolina Motorsports Park (1:49ish to 1:46ish)

I am replacing my original set of F1 3's next week (fronts have about 25% left, rears are bald) for the first time at 8K and I CAN'T WAIT to have the full grip of a new set again.

I was amazed at the grip level when my car was new and I hadn't done a track alignment yet. Looking forward to a new set with the track alignment from the beginning of their life.

Correct. No change in tire type. Old factory normal ZL1's compared to new factory normal ZL1's. No change in tire type, just new vs. old.

I have seen similar results at Road Atlanta. I ran my 1:38.91 on brand new fronts and half worn rears then a few months later with a full 2 day event I still couldn't touch my previous best. Ran 1:40.03 even though I knew I was more technically sound on my laps, just older tires.
