I feel your frustration. I also live in Florida. My lease is up on my 2ss in August. I have 32k miles on it. I have tried my normal dealer (John Hall) and Stingray . 2 of the high volume dealership. Like others have said the ZL1 does not lease well. My payment was also quoted in the $900s. I personally feel your best bet is wait for all the new Vette owners trading in their Gently used Zl1s. That is the route I'm gonna go.

Also in March of last year I saw a auto ZL1 selling for 55k brand new. But that's if you finance it. Just be patient that's what I keep telling myself.

I don't know about leasing, but if you planned to buy and keep for a while, then New Smyrna Beach Chevrolet is a great place to check out. I got mine there for around 7-8k under msrp and they give lifetime powertrain warranties on all new and even some preowned vehicles. The warranty is good at any dealership in the US or Canada too, so you don't have to go back to them for warranty work.

To put that in perspective, $900 per month on a $55K vehicle pays of the entire thing in less than 6 years.

This all really started years ago when BMW was taking an absolute ass beating on their cheap leases they were offering on their 3 and 5 series cars. Over a period of time they took millions of dollars in losses when the cars that were coming back from lease were as much as 10K over valued. All of the other manufacturers took note of this as well hence the reason why residual values are MUCH lower jacking up of course the lease rates.

On a Camaro you would be much better off NOT leasing the car but purchasing it outright. The lease argument that leasing is cheaper DOES NOT apply HERE at all unfortunately.
Very true, as I have now learned. My "reasonable" numbers are way off from what the dealer says GM Financial uses. So, forget the lease deal.

Now, gonna look at purchasing but it might be out of reach financially. Maybe try to find a low miles 2018 or 2019. I sure like getting a new car, but having someone else take the hit is appealing. Dealer will sell me a new 2020 for $60,500 plus sales tax. Not bad?

Consider used.

I love buying new. It's an emotional thing for me, no financial sense, to drive my cars off the lot with less miles on the clock than fingers on my hands, but with the ZL1 finances overruled.

This was the first time I bought used. It took about 6 months but I found a low miles, lightly used ZL1 and bought it for over $15k less than new - even with dealer discounts.

Don't lease unless you can write off the payment or else you're just pissing the money away - and paying taxes on something you don't own. If buying new is out of reach, I highly recommend buying used.

When leasing also consider the financial liability at the end of the lease. Again, giving money away for something you don't get to keep.

I just finished my search and found a 2SS 1LE used with 2300 miles on it. It's amazing how many used ZL1's are out there for really decent money. I searched for 2 months for the right car, and hopefully I have found it. ZL1's dominated the search on Cars.com and Autotrader.

Thanks for the info. What year ZL1 did you pick up?

What's interesting is that most of the ZL1's at dealers down here are ZLE's!

Definitely gonna start the searched for a low miles 2018 or 2019. A bit anxious because I haven't bought a used car since 1971!

Try selling your car yourself. Dealers always try to make $ "coming and going" on trade purchase deal.

I did the same thing you did Robster when I bought a used 2017 ZL1 last March with very low miles(422) which was almost still a new car! I saved around $14,000 of the sticker price and didn’t have to deal with new car depreciation when driving it off the lot! It is my 2nd used car I ever bought in my 46 years of driving but I refused to pay the price of a new ZL1 and decided on buying used and no regrets so far!

Keep looking zx9! Used ZL1s are out there even if you have to buy out of state like I did. Mine was up in South Carolina about a 4 hour drive from where I live in Georgia and I found it on Cars.com with a 250 mile search from my zip code!

My experience is that every time I check the value of my ZL1 it seems to have decreased by a couple thousand. I'd be hard pressed to get $40K on a trade. And my miles are at 19K. At this point it'll be worth $10.38 in another year or so. So screw it. I'm just keeping the thing. I don't like haggling or negotiating. I feel like if a dealership gives me what I consider a fair price then I'll bite. But when they start off with these outrageous prices and basically tell me how worthless my fully optioned low mileage one owner ZL1 is, I don't even give them a chance. Or I waste their time for the day and tell them I'll be back tomorrow and never return, lol!!

Yep, the downside of people holding out indefinitely for the 20-25% discounts and the "OMG look at that %&* incredible deal!! fully spec'd ZL1 in the low 50's!!!" phenomenon. I don't even look at the value of mine anymore... plus deep down I want to keep it anyway.

Well, I can now move on to a better thread. Picked up my new ZL1 with M6 in, Red Hot yesterday. I’m a CPA and it’s tax season. The best time to spend money. I can’t tell you how many motorcycles I’ve bought in April 15.

Now for the long, aggressive, but careful break in.

Thanks for all the help.
