ZL1 a10 - why is it hard to get into the 10s vs 10speed Mustang GT??

Im super confused here. It seems like a stock a10 ZL1 really struggles to get through that 10 second mark stock even on a drag radial. When you compare power to weight to say a 2018+ 10speed mustang GT, those cars are very similar but with 200 less HP. And they are easily bumping into the 10s with a DR, E85 and some headers. Still well under the HP level of the ZL1, but effortlessly going deep 10s NA.

What is the difference? Those Mustangs are very close in weight. I really am struggling with justifying spending money on my ZL1 when I can take my big equity out on trade and get a loaded 10 speed GT with a $8k procharger and dip into the 9's. 10s are a joke to boosted gen 3 coyotes.

Anyone care to shine some light on this? And furthermore what are we doing to get into the 10s? So far I have a setup of 17" DRs and a dry rotofab/no tune and best I have done with zero traction problems just stabbing it from idle is 11.4@124. That was in like 3000ft DA in the florida heat a few weeks ago. Am I going to be able to run 10.9 or something close once the DA drops and its in the 70s? This is very frustrating.

As I’ve said previously here, met with total disbelief and BS flags, well sorted bolt on LT1/SS and GTs will out run a stock ZL1.

ZL1s really need a ECM and trans tune to be unleashed. Watch Jorge loves speed on YouTube to see how his car did stock vs tuned

I agree, unlock the trans, tune them both and you'll be in the 10s and might as well do a flex fuel sensor and run a small amount of E85. I think you can do it without the headers also.

I watched some of one of his Videos and that's impressive running 10.47 with just trans tune, E and CAI, plus the drag pack. I can tell my A10 doesn't perform anything like my A8 in the C7 and my old Camaro.

Trans tune.. The throttle will not open all the way through most of the rpm range(<5500rpm) for the first 3 gears until it's tuned.

I have a 21 ZL1 so that means I have to buy the HPT unlocked T87a TCM correct? And have that installed? I also have to get a wideband installed for the tune itself. What a pain in the ass. Why no WB installed from the factory. Both the FORDs and Dodges have them now...

Mine has an unlocked T87a, but the tuning is not simple.

WB costs you $200-250. Then weld-in a single bung.

Not sure these will result in 10s though

Why won’t the throttle open up all the way for the first 3 gears? Trying to preserve things or trying to keep traction manageable? Curious what their reason was.

Either way, I’d be interested in simply disabling that and touching nothing else. Is that’s all that is needed for 10s?

I would think trans tune, playing in the fuel cutoff tab, and dd, thats all that would be needed for consistent 10s

If I Don’t touch the maf curve or enrichment tables, in my mind, wouldn’t need the wideband

Not HPT, it's Houston House of Power that has come up with the hack to install a T87a into a 2020+ Camaro in place of the untunable T93, ONLY them, nobody else.

It's a torque limit vs rpm vs gear setting in the trans tune. WOT throttle is delayed until above 5500rpm. Probably to help keep people out of the ditch with the factory tires. Here is a previous post with more detail. https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showp...&postcount=199

Yes trans tune and tire should break into 10's in decent air.

attatched below is after the trans tune. look at the TPS(%) difference.
