Track Day Check List

I picked up a 2SS 6M back in April & will be doing my first track day at Road Atlanta in 3 weeks & wanted to list what I have done already & what I plan to so, feel free to weigh in with any suggestion on anything that I may have missed. Car has 2800 miles on it & will probably have 3500 on it by the time the track day gets here.

I did an oil change & differential fluid change at around 1200 miles. Also installed a strut tower brace a while back as well.

Completed today

Installed larger defectors & smaller splash shields. This was a bit of a PIA but you can really see how it will channel so much more air to the front brakes. I doubt I will ever run on a track without these.

Brake fluid flush with Motul RBF 660

Installed Phastek SS brake lines

Installed EBC yellow stuff brake pads

Installed Z1 add on's rock guards

Installed Harry's lap timer pro on my IPhone & bought the windshield mount

Planned to do before track day

Oil change with Motul X-clean (dexose 2) 5W40

Apply Road Warrior Plus paint protection behind doors, probably do some blue tape there as well

Install CG Lock seat belt locking device. This allows you to cinch up you lap belt as tight as you want without impacting shoulder belt

Will change rear diff after track day using OEM fluid

As you can see I am mostly working on braking, I have ran on RA several times and there is a lot of hard braking from very high speeds which is why that is where I have put most of my effort so far.

Do I have all of my bases covered or am I missing something

TIA for any recommendations

Good quality brake fluid, pads and more importantly track alignment are essential for the track day. Also get some good quality tire pressure gauge and torque wrench.

May I ask why you added the strut tower brace? I would never consider adding a strut tower brace on a car that already has some understeer.

Don't forget to bed your brake pads.

Sounds like you got your basis covered. Give your rotors a once over. I would check the torque on all your wheels (COLD) as well as take them off and verify key suspension components look safe. Grab a wrench check your sway bar endlinks, visually inspect bolts and rod ends. Most of the suspension components have lines on them to verify rotation. If they dont have lines on them buy a pen and do it yourself. Just a generic pre-track suspension check is always a good idea. While your under there check for leaks and verify coolant level etc.

I will add to your "bring to the track" list...

Water
Airpressure guage
Extra quart of oil
Spare brake fluid
Shop towels
Gloves
Extra blue Tape
Somethign to clean your windshield.
Torque wrench and a socket for wheels
Jack and Jack stand.
Lawn chair and some form of shade. Big umbrella would be nice.

Thanks for all the replies & ideas

Track alignment, good call, I will get that done thanks. I suppose can just use the SS 1LE alignment specs from the HP supplement right?

I am still on stock wheels & tires, & have good quality torque wrench & tire pressure gauge

I will bed in the pads before hitting the track, I will have 500 to 700 miles on them as well so they should be good to go

Don't believe the strut tower brace does much except look cool, I will remove it if I notice undo understeer, very easy to do, only a few bolts.

These all make sense too, thanks. Road Atlanta has a big covered area to hang out in that keeps you out of the sun so I should be good without an umbrella

Water
Extra quart of oil
Spare brake fluid
Shop towels
Gloves
Extra blue Tape
Something to clean your windshield.
Torque wrench and a socket for wheels
Jack and Jack stand.
Lawn chair and some form of shade

Also - forgot to mention that I did purchase track day insurance - $257 for 90% replacement plus $10K property damage coverage - hopefully never to be used but made sense to me for a new car

Thanks again

A physical checklist. Don't count on memory alone for remembering everything, every time, and don't check anything off until after you've actually done it/packed it.

EBC yellow should work for first time ever at the track. On the 2nd / maybe 3rd event you will melt them away.

Let's just say that experience has been an unforgiving instructor . . .
