Slow crank + Serv. Stabilitrak + RPM gauge failing?
So this last Sunday I went to go run a few errands, nothing out of the ordinary, and then got a bunch of issues without warning; the car had been working wonderfully the whole day.
As i'm getting back in my car ready to start the car, i push the start button and the car starts cranking, but very slowly and then just stops without powering up the car. I wait about a minute, and try again, and again it starts cranking really slowly until it finally does turn on... But when it turned on, i got a pop up message that said "Service Stabilitrak", and i noticed my RPM guage wasn't working. I pulled out the parking lot and still no RPM function with the traction light on but the "service stabilitrak" message gone, and for some reason, when i drove, i noticed my engine sounded for lack of a better term "labored" and my exhaust sounded louder. I get home, turn it off, then turn the car back on 5 minutes later, and the car is working like normal, engine sounds normal, no traction lights, messages, or pop ups, and the rpm gauge is working again. Till this day, i haven't had any other issues. Anyone else have something like this happen? This is the first time i get anything like this, the car has been pretty good to me so far with its 18K+ miles.

Not good. Take it in and tell them what happened. Try and record each startup on your phone from here on out to try and get evidence of the occurrence for the dealership. One way you could try and reproduce the issue is to try and start the car immediately after a shutdown while the engine is hot. One member had a similar problem of slow cranking to failed start, and he had some serious engine issues warranting a replacement. Hopefully its something less significant, like a dying battery.

Probably 67-75 degrees that day, we don't get real winters or real summers here, but i've read others have issue with the slow crank being a result of heat soaking, which i doubt could be the case as comfortable as the weather has been, and i wasn't beating on the car, just normal driving from store to store
I'll try to see if i can get it into the dealership. unfortunately my phone glitched out and i couldn't take the picture of the "service stabilitrak" message, but i did record some footage of me driving with the RPM gauge not working. thats all i have as proof that something went wrong.

You can go to a local autoparts store and have them do a quick battery load test I've see a ton of new vehicles over the years with bad batteries from right off the Line. |

EDIT: here's a screen shot of my attempt to take video when driving to demonstrate the traction light, dead RPM gauge, and normal battery. At no point was it below that mark it shows here.

I had this happen a few times recently. I had slow crank EARLY on and it was attributed to heat-soak.
But it seems like when the heat soak gets bad enough the slow crank turns in to a variation of what you saw. My car would rumble and whatnot. I wait literally 2 mins with the ignition off and start the car again, Boom everything works fine. Some have said they had their battery harness changes, some said its a ground wire. Please report back if you solve this. It's about to go away as it gets cooler but i'd like to fix it befor enext summer. Dealers are useless with it, it seems.

1. Need to load test the battery 2. Check for voltage drop from battery to engine starter When the main super-long cables are bad, battery to front, tachs bounce or quit. They seem to be the first obvious low voltage indicator. Higher ambient temps combined with heat soak exacerbate the problem. i

Did you ever get to the bottom of this? I just had this happen to me today minus the tach dropping.

No, never took it to the dealer, haven't had it happen again since. If it happens again, i'll be ready with my phone camera to capture it all. The dealer would probably just say that they cant do anything because they cant recreate it... so i'll wait. It does look like it might just have been a battery issue that caused the car to just burp up codes, we'll see if it happens again.

This is happening to me now. My rpm gauge stops working and stabilitrak will come on and also the car seems to get stuck in a gear and doesnt want to accelerate. Anyone ever get to the bottom of this?

These cars do strange things when there is an electrical glitch. For me and many others the car would due strange things after a hot start slow crank situation. Besides the disturbing "almost no start from the slow crank" the car did things like a bouncing or none working tach, stablitrak message and/or other dash warning messages. Adding another ground cable is cheap and easy. It may not fix your problems but it's worth a shot. My slow crank and other weird electrical issues have been in my past for over a year now once I added the additional ground cable. Good luck and keep us posted.
