Im adding a sound tube to my zl1.

Just curious if anyone else has done this?! Im about mid way along.. looking for a place to tap in, maybe that little empty bung on the bottom of stock elbow. Ive verified that the firewall does have the sound tube hole (and cover) present. I got a tube from a new SS which has the air baffle present inline with the tube, so no worries of it pulling air from the cabin.

Im also working on a way to actively open and close the tube! I know about the foam plug, but Im assuming it will be very loud (hopefully big intake slurping and SC whine noises!) but I may wanna quiet it down sometimes.

I wired up an actuator to a wireless remote and installed a flapper valve on it to close off the tube. When I found the empty bung on the elbow my plans changed, not sure if I can still integrate it, but its pretty cool..

Stay tuned!

The louder the better if you ask me. Since my e92m3, I've realized what joy intake sound can be! I bought my first supercharged sports car I cant hear the whine, so I'm attempting to fix that. I did the foam stopper mod on my ss and it was awesome. I cant wait to hear what it sounds like on the zl1.. maybe it will suck, maybe not.

Scott, it takes the sound from near the intake side of the motor and literally ports it into the cabin via a tube. The SS's have this tube, the zl1 does not. My guess the engineers decided not to put the tube in for either weight savings or it was too loud for most users, or maybe its just not a nice sound!? This is why I'm working on a no-compromise mod where just like closing the valves on a NPP exhaust, I'll be able to close the sound tube off from the cabin, with a remote control.

Interesting. I’d like to hear more whine also, but I don’t think I’d go to this extent to get it LOL. Good luck, and let us know how it works out.

Sub, get an aftermarket CAI like a Roto Fab and you will hear the whine from the supercharger.

If you want more whine, remove the solid metal sound deadening plate from the bottom of the supercharger lid. That in combination with my rotofab really helped.

edit wow. I just realized this was brought back from the dead of 2017. whoops, they got my ass

LOL

... was about to say: careful when you unbolt the lid, and bring extra bolts. They like to snap. But since this is a necro thread, I won't.

I'm also wondering what the outcome was to this? I'm thinking of doing the same thing and would like a valve I can close. My exhaust is so loud at times of WOT I cannot hear my SC whine even with my rotofab
