Upgraded to Procharger Stage 2 Intercooler

After figuring out what was rubbing on my left front tire while turning right, I noticed I didn't have the stage 2 intercooler I thought was installed... My IAT's when logging reaching almost 160 were a little high but I just contributed it to the weather.

Ended up finding a stage 2 intercooler plus the race valve on Facebook Marketplace. Readjusted the charge pipe so it not longer pushes against the fender liner and got the new intercooler installed.

Took it for a spin last night and where my AFR is usually around 12.5, it was down to 11.6. I figured I'd have to make some adjustments but I'm surprised it swung that far. I'll get some datalogs when the rain stops next week from the hurricane making its way north.

That's a pretty notable beneficial change in AFR! I know of course that cooler IAT is better, but I'm not familiar with the theory on why that AFR change manifested. Can you explain?

In theory with more air flow, I would've thought it would actually go lean. I'm wondering if since the maf is post intercooler it's reading the additional airflow and is adding too much fuel because the original tune wasn't calibrated for the extra flow. Maybe someone who has dealt with this before can chime in.

It might be because you are now hitting higher cells in the MAF table that the tuner just padded with extra fuel as a safety since you never hit those cells with old setup.

That's what I was thinking. I'll find out when I log and attempt to modify some tables.

About that Red Valve

[QUOTE=

I've listened to videos, etc. and I am trying to determine how loud the "sucking" sound is during normal driving with that race valve. Can you hear it well with the windows down driving normally? Is it loud enough to be annoying? I don't mind the noise at gear shifts (I'm an M6) but I'm trying to determine if I could live with the other noise on a regular basis.

Honestly it's quieter than I expected it to be. More noise than the "pro flow" that was on previously (which I want) but nowhere close to being obnoxious. I'm sure the open style is much louder, but with this you can run a hose/filter on it if you need less noise.

Just a quick update: Finally was able to drive the car and log now that the rain has subsided. AFR was actually down to 11.2 near redline. I adjusted the maf table a little bit and am actually pretty close by taking out 5%. I will make another adjustment or two and should be good to go.

When logging with the small intercooler, I was seeing IAT's of 158 with ambient temperature being 80 degrees. With the stage 2 I saw a max of 128 in 4th gear at 78 degrees ambient. It's safe to say the larger intercooler is good for a 20-30 degree temperature drop as well as more flow.

That is a nice improvement. Some of the base parts for the Procharger kits seem like they are designed for low boost with no room to grow.

The base kit should just start with the stage 2 intercooler. Fits in the same location with no cutting or anything...
