Fair enough. ZL1 MSRP is still sub $70K BTW, even with the '23 increase.

You can either swing it now, or you can't. While I regret not grabbing one sooner, not buying solely because it was cheaper yesterday than it is today seems like odd motivation to me.

A ZL1 is a bad financial decision period, resale will never be high enough to keep you whole in the end. What about those that never intent to sell one of the last manual V8's to be made? Resale is moot.

I will say, you ZL1 owners saying the car isn't worth its current price(you wouldn't buy one) make me wonder if the ZL1 is all it's hyped to be. I'm betting it's still well worth the price.
You are right. I struggled whether to buy another SS 1LE or ZL1 last year. They both represent great bang for the buck for performance enthusiasts. I had owned an SS 1LE in the past and a C7 Grand Sport so I was itching to own a supercharged V8 before they stop making them so I sprung for the ZL1. The car is a beast, you get used to it like anything else but it always put a smile on my face when I drive it and easy on the eyes to look at.

The only car at the moment that may get me to part with it would be a C8 Corvette but they still want $15k over and I am not sure if it would be anymore fun after the initial honeymoon wears off.

Try Driveway.com. I put my 2021 ZL1 (A10) in there for giggles and they are offering $69,500, which is $1,500 more than I paid.

When the local Mazda dealer has $3k ADM on a Miata, you know it crazy times.

With high gas prices I see the market coming down soon people will not be able to afford to drive them and they will sell so the market will be flooded once again. 100 to 150 or a (tank and a 1/2 a week) to fill up heck that's a 4 banger car payment couple that to a 80k dollar car or $1100 to $1500 plus car payment making it near 2k a month to operate counting insurance.

here is the price calculator at Chevy current offer of 1.9% for 60 mos. for a 77k car. vs me and the credit union in Aug 2017 at 1.6% for 81 mos.

The scary thing is I passed on several zl1's at 56k I couldn't do mosiac blk or that reddish maroon (garnet red)

You analysis on monthly payment is irrelevant considering 60 mos vs 80 mos. It looks bad when you look at only the payment, but this isn't an apples to apples comparison.

That it is. I picked up my 2018 in Sept. 2020 with 9,XXX miles on it for $55k and it was a Chevy Certified model. I can still sell it for more than I paid which is just nuts to me.

It is crazy! Has created a lot of car turnover, I am seeing used ZL1's that have had 3 owners already.

Nothing is less appealing than a heavily used car being sold @ MSRP.

Who the hell is buying these cars?

Well, I'm one of the idiots. My '14 got totalled, so I picked up a '17. Didn't really want to pay such an inflated price, but didnt want to wait 4-12 months for a new one, either. Crappy market timing to be t-boned, but whatcha gonna do? I NEED my daily ZL1 fix.

Exactly this - that extra two years to pay on a lower balance makes a big difference in the monthly payment amount. Doing a quick calc on my own spreadsheet (made using my 20 years experience in auto lending software) and the original numbers for tax amount and down payment gives me this:

59,999 loan amount
81 month = 783 / month
60 month = 1056 / month

76,999 loan amount
81 month = 1024 / month
60 month = 1378 / month

So yeah, there is a difference in the monthly payment - but only about half as much as the biased numbers in that original screen grab.

You want a 355 Ferrari? Very cool looking car but would be filled with rattles. Far off the ZL1 in terms of performance and seems like a maintenance nightmare even with a GM motor. The Ferrari engine is what makes a Ferrari special, you need a live in mechanic to maintain items like that. If you could do a full resto like this... http://build-threads.com/build-threa...m-restoration/

There are at least 5 parts to this F40 resto story.
