I know it's usually a silly question to ask about cars holding value or increasing, BUT with the conversion to electric cars is it possible the big V8 muscle cars will hold value or increase in value in about 10 years when they're phased out? I've seen several post on here people thinking they will hold value better.


I've notice the late model Firebird and Trans Am like 1999 thru 2002 getting some decent asking prices still, especially if you're buying from a performance car dealer. I saw a 2002 Camaro SS rag top going for $37,000 at a dealer because it was super low miles.

Good question.

Because of this whole COVID situation, Carvana and Vroom are offering me $33k for my 2017 2SS that I paid $36k for 3 years ago (I'm ex-GM).

I'm really tempted to let her go for that amount of money, but I have a feeling she might be a special one 15-20 years from now when everything is electric. I'd love to have my son/daughter drive my Camaro, which I will assume to be a rather unique driving experience by that time.

i can remember when dodge daytonas and plymouth superbirds sat on dealer lots because they were ugly.theres no saying its a sure bet but a certain segment of the population will always want one in good condition.

I don't think the Super Bird is ugly. It stands out, not a lot drive it and is fast. Something unique.


That's what I like about the Camaro SS 6th gen. Not a lot buy the SS anymore and I don't see a lot of 6th gen SS on the road around here unlike you do the Mustang GT. I see lots of people looking at my Silver 2ss.

That's what I like about the Camaro SS 6th gen. Not a lot buy the SS anymore and I don't see a lot of 6th gen SS on the road around here unlike you do the Mustang GT. I see lots of people looking at my Silver 2ss.

i liked the superbirds,but they were too much for a 10 year olds budget.

Considering production numbers compared to the Gen 1 Camaro at sometime in the future the Gen 6 will have value, so will the Mustang, and Challengers. The ZL1/Hellcat/Shelby will be the most sought after then the SS/5.0. People will be making SS clones out of LTs. So if you want to park it in the garage for about 40 years then yes I would say your car will go up in value.

I think I'd be concerned about the shelf life of the modern plastic components. Might be a good time to buy up some stock and keep it in a vacuum.

Dont worry about that plastic... It has a half life of 200,000 years!!!
Might not still function. But it will be here.
I think the high test will still be available. But the survivor cars will be toys for the wealthy.
Plenty of AV gas available.
Every time Washington DC decides to destroy the auto industry the most desirable of the current crop seem to be the biggest losers.
But in the long run people like what they like. The coolest of the crop end up most desirable later. Doom and gloom not withstanding.
This could be a different kind of thing though with the anti Fossil Fuels crowd seeming to be taking control.
I guess well find out.

First, the current generation of Camaro is generally referred to as Gen6 as "C6" is commonly associated with the sixth generation of Corvette.

Second, no car EVER "holds" its value. Certain vehicles, at 25+ years of age, will begin to see their value increase as a collector car but never at 10 years.

The car you're referring to is A) at a dealer (they are delirious when it comes to prices) and B) may represent a very particular vehicle that some people may be in search of. They are trying to push the issue of "super low miles" as justification for a ridiculous asking price. It is, however, by no means a collector car.

Do a search on a site like AutoTrader and you'll find that about $15k seems to be roughly the right price area for those cars.

So, the short answer is 100% no.
