New Nissan Z - Thoughts
Thoughts. Is it something to consider? Or is the Camaro still better?

I think for ~$42k it's a competitor to an SS if one doesn't need back seats. The Z weighs ~3,500 lbs and has 400 hp, so it should have similar acceleration to an SS, maybe slightly slower on the top end due to less hp, assuming the 400 hp rating is accurate and not underrated like the Supra. I think it's going to be equipped more at a 2SS level, since there's hardly any options available, most of them come standard.
I think it has clean lines and is a good looking design, and I like the interior design as well. While the chassis is old, Nissan did update it, so it's not just a "carry-over" from the 370Z, despite the hard points carrying over. It seriously undercuts the Supra 3.0 price, and is cheaper than the Supra 2.0. It's forced Toyota to add a manual to the Supra. It also is a cleaner design than the Supra and I look forward to seeing a Z in person to see if it looks better in person than in photos (although I do think it looks good in photos). The Supra looks much better in person than in photos. I think Nissan hit it out of the park from what I've seen/read so far. IMO a huge improvement over the 350Z and 370Z, both of which I never really liked because of the blob shape. I'm excited to see the Z NISMO version later.

I think they did a great job with the new Z in every way. Definitely a big step up from the 370.
Ive seen one test so far with the auto Z running a low 12 sec 1/4@ 116 mph which sounds about right.

I think they did a great job on the throwback. If I had the money to collet one I would buy one just to keep in the garage.

Hagerty w/ Jason Cammisa tested the new Z: the A9 went 12.3 @ 116 mph, and the M6 went 12.8 @ 112 mph.
Those automatic trans. numbers are right on par with the A10 GT and Mach 1, 3.0 Supra, Camaro SS, 392 Challenger, etc. Jason C. said the Z's tires weren't as sticky as the Michelins on the Supra they tested (it went 12.1 @ 117 mph) so it didn't launch as well, otherwise, they were pretty close in acceleration. 1 mph difference in trap speed (Supra vs Z) is really close.

I like it, but at $51k for the perf it puts the zupra back in play. I was also disappointed with how much slower and quieter the manual was.

The slower ET is understandable for the manual but 4 mph slower trap was a bit odd. Need to see more testing.

I'll stick to this Z (owned since 1987) and my other Z... ZL1 I've seen the new Z in person here in Nissan's back yard at Nashville Cars and Coffee several times. I'll wait and see what the NISMO version is like, with improvements especially in the front grill/fascia area. I just gave my 300ZX Twin Turbo to my daughter and her husband in Virginia. They drove it back just last week.

As the owner of a Z (and the prior owner of several more Zs) I was excited to see the new Z come out, especially since the 370Z was first introduced in 2009. I really like the styling, but I have to say I'm disappointed with the pricing and the fact that the new Z is built on a modified version of the 370Z chassis. The base model is a good deal at 40K, but the Performance model with all the performance upgrades is 10K more. I was hoping it might be priced more like the 1LE option at around 7-8k more than the base. And based on the testing I've seen the Z needs larger and stickier rear tires as it has hard time putting the power to the ground. It has 275s on the rear. Heck I've got 285s on the rear of my 350Z. I can't wait to see what the Nismo version will be like.
I was actually planning on buying the new Z when it was first introduced last year. But the timing for the release kept getting pushed back so I decided to pull the trigger on my 1LE. I've seen some rumors on some of the Nissan Z websites that the Z might not actually hit the U.S. market until the fall or even the end of 2022. It will be interesting to see what happens. I still think my 1LE is a better performance car and value. My 350Z is still one of my favorite cars to drive. It puts a smile on my face every time I drive it, even after almost 20 years of ownership. And I'm having a new clutch and flywheel from Z1 installed this week which hopefully will make it drive even better.
