10 quarts of 0W-40 ESP X3 (DEXOS 2) + 2 STP filters for $76 (down from $80 recently), minus *I think* two qualifying $10 rebates leaves you at around $56 and some taxes.
Are Dexos 2 and Dexos R equivalent? My '23 specifies Dexos R, first time I've heard of it. Looks like I'll be buying the M1 Supercar stuff for mine, but wanted to know if there are equivalents.

Yes, they are. The X3 0W-40 (Dexos 2) is actually slightly better (can't remember which stat is better, but one of them is).

I cannot see using the M1 0w-40 oils and having any success to remedy problems they create. Specific issues with low speed pre-ignition is common with these products due to the high calcium they contain. Additionally, neither formulation of the M1 0w-40 oils contain any significant amounts of Moly or Boron to help with the added stresses when boost is applied to the dome of the piston and rings. Contamination of the oil by fueling and combustion lead to significant breakdown of the friction package.

I recently changed my oil just to test the theory behind these low-drag, low viscosity full-synthetic offerings for a road trip from South Carolina to Miami and back. The results were virtually identical MPGs for cruise but the dramatic drop in cruise oil pressure below 50psi was substantial. The only time pressures exceeded 50psi was while accelerating. The oil temps during cruise, 70-85mph were consistently above 212 degrees which is a 22 degree rise from the typical temps using Amsoil 15w-50 while driving in the same conditions.

Another issue which showed with this oil is the triggering of a CEL code for low-speed knock. Each occurrence happened at throttle transitions below 30% throttle, while accelerating around a car to switch from left to right lane and back in SPORT mode. I have now run 1600 miles with this oil and will be changing it tomorrow, going back to the Amsoil Signature 0w-40 for the street and there is no viable substitute for the racing 15w-50 protection.

Sounds like an Amsoil sales pitch.

I'm going to trust GM's recommendation and stick with a Dexos R certified oil. M1 Supercar is the only one I'm aware of. GM would not have recommended it, if it was so problematic. This comes from decades of experience and hundreds of thousands of miles driven on manufacturer-spec oils.

Haven't seen any oil deals in a while. Looking for 0w-40 or 5w-30 for the Camaro, or 0w-20 for my wife's car. Anyone have any leads?

I sense another heated oil brand/weight/manufacturer recommendation aye/nay debate thread in the making

M1 0w40 supercar with the dexos R cert is literally the factory fill on our motors, and is an excellent oil. It's different than the older m1 0w40 "European formula" which had a much higher calcium add pack.

Amsoil used to be good, not so sure it's anything much better than the competition now days ...

Going to stick with 0w40 supercar personally, and this is after a lot of deeper diving into this topic.

There's a great YT video from a fellow member here on what oil to run as well. Maybe someone can help by posting it.

fwiw I got the supercar stuff from speedway (on amazon) a few months back and it was in fact the supercar not x3.

they also had the best deal when i was looking, couldn't tell you if that's still true today.

I put Syntec 0-40 in my car, it's on the Dexos2(?) list but I frankly don't care about "Dexos". If Supercar was available on the shelf in my area, I can't find it, so that's what I use, Castrol.

Autozone:
Mobil 1 ESP X3 0W-40 & K&N filter - $40.99 per 5qts - $15.24 for filter
Unit cost is $5.15/qt

Walmart:
Mobil 1 15W-50 - $26.97 per 5 qts, just make sure you get the newer API SP rating rather than old stock of the API SN rating.
Unit cost is $5.39/qt

Driving Racing or summit racing w/ 10% off SCCA annual membership renewal coupon
DI40 5W-40 - $17.97 per qt
Maybe one oil change per yr I use this since I primarily track the car and leave the 15W-50 in the engine and keep the street driven mileage minimal. Currently avg 2000 miles per yr.

I bought 4 single quarts of Mobil 1 0W-40 supercar oil from Wallyworlds website for a little less then $10 per quart but I see now all they have is the 6 quart deal for $54 shipped - https://www.walmart.com/ip/Mobil-1-S...4?from=/search

If you go on Mobil’s website it will ask you what car you have etc. then recommend 0W-40 supercar and when you click “purchase” it tells you where to get it and when you click on advance it tells you local stores.
https://www.mobil.com/en/lubricants/...on/FawEeIdP7/0

It’s $11.99 a quart at Advance and Summit charges shipping.

0W-40 Supercar isn't well priced on Amazon these days. ESP x3 is cheaper, but this isn't a horrible price for free home shipping at $12/qt.

This is a slightly better deal if you get two 6-packs but you spend another $22 in shipping, making it more than Advanced Auto. It's cheaper if you can pickup locally.
