2024 Camaro SS or LT1

Hi Everyone,

I'm thinking of ordering a 2024 Camaro SS, 10 speed automatic, dual mode exhaust, probably a 1SS. I currently have a 2022 Camaro LT1, 10 speed, dual mode exhaust. Has anyone driven both the SS and LT1? Is there a difference in performance with the SS over the LT1, better handling?? I like the LT1, but wondered if it's worth upgrading. I know the 1LE is a better handling car, but I don't need all of that, just a street driven car for me.

Thanks for the imput.

I love all the extras the 2ss has! I think if you are going to keep the car 2ss is the way to go!

On a street driven car the LT1 is perfectly fine. SS and 1LE make more sense on a car that will see a road course given the additional cooling and better rear brakes. 2SS could make sense if you want all the extra bells and whistles (heated/ventilated seats, HUD, blind spot warning, etc). There are roughly 3 million posts on this topic if you do a search lol.

It depends, with the the SS trim (either 1SS or 2SS), you're going to get wider rear wheels, bigger rear brakes, the different facia, bigger infotainment screen, and a nicer digital cluster. For me, all that was worth it. The better brakes and wider tires out back will improve performance, but I don't think there will be a huge difference in handling like if you went up to a 1LE. Other than that, the 2SS is all about the creature comforts.

The LT1 is a blank V8 canvas for upgraders. The 1SS is the V8 for those that care about great overall performance out of the box with no upgrades. Finally, the 2SS adds several safety, comfort and convenience options on top.

Given this is the very last model year, if I were in the market now, I'd personally go as far as I could stretch my budget and would only consider the 2SS.

Strictly speaking to your question of “performance”. There will be no discernible difference on the street, other than the summer wider and stickier tires on the SS. As a side note, The brakes on the SS dust like crazy, the LT1 almost none.

If you want more amenities than you have… then it’s time to upgrade to the SS. Otherwise, just buy some nice wide wheels and sticky tires for your LT1.

As an FYI - I’ve also owned an SS and a ZL1. The LT1 is no slouch…

As has been said, search the forum on this subject… been brought up a zillion times.

I am on my 2nd 1SS. I even went so far as to put LT1 rolling stock on the current one and for me it's the best of both worlds. SS features without a lot of excess and a set of wheels I can rotate and drive all year long. I ordered an LT1 and have driven a few. I like them plenty. On the other hand, I prefer the face of the SS and the instrument cluster and it's features. when my allotment (finally) came in, I was given a choice: 1SS, LT1 or a ZL1. All personal preference and we all like different things. ask for opinions: get plenty of different ones. GO WITH WHAT YOU WANT.

Find a 1SS on a dealers lot to look at and test drive and decide from there, see if it's worth going to 1SS trim for you.

Thumbs up

Without having to think twice, the SS has better brakes, suspension and wider tires compared to the plain LT1. For much better handling performance.
