Order a new ZL1 or get a low mile C7??

New ZL1 M6 or a 1 owner C7 M7 with 2k-10k miles.

who has owned both?
please give me your reviews

leaning towards the Z but a C7 is more of a bucket list item

I own a M7 C7Z and a A10 ZL1. If I did it over again I would not change the transmission in either.

I owned a C7 GS M7 and recently traded for ZL1 M6 , both awesome cars but ZL1 takes the edge ofcourse because of insane power. The transmission and steering in ZL1 is miles better than the C7 vette.

You need to act very fast if you want either of them , maybe look at a C7 Z06 too

I sold my 2019 Z06 M7 and bought a 2021 ZL1 1LE A10. Unfortunately I tore my meniscus and shifting became too painful. Why not buy an A8 Z06? Because that A8 trans is pure crap compared to the A10 and no matter what anyone tells you, A8 Z06’s of any year overheat on track. I could write multiple paragraphs about how good the A10 is but if you want a manual you really don’t care…….I will say that I was a skeptic until I drove one on track and now I’m a believer. This is the closest GM has ever come to creating a trans that is just as smart as the Porsche PDK. Anyway…..l just remembered you don’t care.

Let’s first agree that both cars are 2 seaters. No one is riding in the back seat of a Camaro. So no explaining that the Camaro is more practical because it seats 4…..no, no it doesn’t. It seats 2 and punishes 2 poor bastards who will never ride with you again. If you don’t plan to track the car then get whatever you think looks best. Life is short and you should enjoy the car you drive. 650hp is a f&$@ing blast in a Camaro or a Corvette.

If you plan on tracking the car then read on…….if not just stop here 🛑.

If you’re tracking the car consider the ZL1 1LE and know that the ride on the street can be punishing at times. Also know that the ZLE WILL run with the Z06, in fact at VIR it’s a drivers race. If you run a non-1LE, then not so much. Which is all good if you know that going in - and don’t mind being 3 to 4 seconds slower then the Z06. Not meant as an insult just reality. If you can drive a 650hp Camaro or Z06 you’re going to be faster than 90% of the guys we see on track.

Again assuming we’re going to run some track days, try to find a 2019 Z06 M7. There were several upgrades in the final year that made that car more track worthy including:

- Mag shock retune (I had the DSC controller in my 2016 Z06 and frankly the ‘19 didn’t need it)
- Larger radiator
- Spider gears from ZR1
- I believe better fuel system also from the ZR1

There was more but memory fades. Also know that the Z06 M7 will give you max performance on the track AND max comfort on the street with the mag shocks. You select the ride quality which you can’t do with the ZLE. Visibility in the Z06 is also better. Lower belt line, lower dash, smaller A pillar…….it all just adds up and there’s just better visibility in the Z06.

Get ready for sticker shock. A used 2019 Z06 M7 is still going to be $80-$90K. Go look on AutoTrader and you won’t find one that doesn’t say ‘call dealer for price’. I bought mine for $79K (GMS) and sold it 3 years and 24K miles later for $76K. We need a few more C8 Z06’s out there to drive the C7’s back down to reality.

A used 2021 ZL1 1LE is around $70-$75K. Mine was $71K OTD with 6K miles and PDR. Felt like I stole it and still do frankly. Doubt many will land a 2023 ZLE given the constraints, demands and dealer shenanigans. Regular ZL1’s I see occasionally at local dealer with the usual +$5 to $10K market adjustment.

Final thoughts:

1) Not tracking? Get the car you think looks the best. They’re all fast (ZL1, ZLE and Z06) and low mile Z06’s are reasonably priced if you look at 2016/2017’s.

2) Tracking and don’t care about being slow-ish compared to a Z06, get the ZL1 M6 and don’t look back.

3) Tracking and want to run with all but the fastest GT3 RS boys…..get the Z06 or ZLE.

4) Tracking but like your tooth fillings right where they are thank you……get the Z06.

Hope that helps……

Sorry, I assumed C7Z. If it’s not a Z06, don’t even bother. The ZL1 is the better car.

Unless you’re talking about a Z06 I would get a ZL1. If you meant a Z06 that’s a tough one.

I'll toss something else into the mix. I've had a C7 Z51, a C7 Z06, a 2015 Z/28 (still) and a 2022 ZL1 (non-1LE). The Z06 was by far the fastest of the four cars stock. Lower weight than the ZL1 gives it this advantage easily. The C7 Z51 car I had did not have mag ride (wasn't tracking it) and it was a perfectly ok street car because it was NA and 'light weight' and made ok power. Then I got the Z06 and 'holy shit' that was a definite upgrade in handling, power, and badass-ery. Mine was a 2015, so I had the first year and didn't have all the nice changes that CVP33 had in his 2019 and can't speak to those benefits. I know that the supercharger was changed because of overheating in the rear cylinders in 2016-2017 but GM never really acknowledged that problem 'officially.' All my cars were manuals (won't buy an auto, this is why I don't have a C8) as I'm with the 'die hard crew' here with three pedals. The A10 I hear is a phenomenal transmission so I wouldn't say 'don't do it' but the manual in the ZL1 and the Z06 is a great transmission (plus 1 gear in the Z06 with the 7 speed). For the high cost of a Z06 (C7) I'd probably get the Camaro and know that the Camaro platform and cooling is 'pretty well sorted.' On the street, it would never be an issue but for those track rats, that could be important. I threw a 2650 and some other supporting bolt on mods (no opening of the engine) and it is now a ****ing animal. I don't know how these other guys (I say this with max respect) drive their 800+ whp ZL1s on the street. Wild stuff. I think the Camaro is a better buy, yeah it is heavier, but still wicked fast. The 1LE cars are studs, LOVED the Multimatic suspension on my Z/28, wish I could jam it on to the base ZL1 I have. The interior in the Camaro is pretty nice and some newer tech features have been added which you won't get in a 2019 or older C7....Also those cars are coming up on their warranty expiration SOON if that's a concern for you...

I had an auto 2019 Grand Sport. It looked amazing (though now that look is obviously dated compared to the c8s), but performance was underwhelming. The ZL1 is much more beastly. If I were you I defintitely wouldnt get a regular c7 over a zl1. If you can get a c7 z then maybe

I can’t think of any tech that’s on the 2021 ZL1 that wasn’t on my 2019 Z06. I may have missed something though.

NAV - same
CarPlay - same
Mag shocks - same
PDR - same (although slightly better graphics and camera in the 2021)
HVAC - same
HUD - same
Digital Dash - slightly more configurable in the Z06
OnStar - same

I'm thinking things like the infotainment might be a newer version in 2023 than it was on the 2019, not sure about that though. My 2015 was DEFINITELY different I'll tell you that. Wireless phone charging is on the ZL1, does the 2019 Z06 have that?

I currently own a 2017 Grand Sport A8 and a 2022 ZL1 A10.

Both great cars, but from an overall perspective, the ZL1 wins.

The Corvette aura is strong however.

I have had a C7 Stingray manual, a C7 Convertible auto, a C7 Z06 manual, a C7 Z07 auto and now the ZL1 auto and agree with the above statement, unless you are talking about the C7 Z06 or Z07 stick with the ZL1.
