Yes I am in London. There is a very reputable shop about an hour from where I live and these guys do a great job when it comes to modifying steering wheels. Chippy, yes it's thicker than the original one and the grip and feeling is fantastic.

A good friend of mine is the owner of C2 Customs and can make any custom wheel you want. Hit him up on instagram @c2customs and he can take care of you.

Thanks for the leads why can't I just buy a 2SS leather wheel ? Why is that so difficult?

You can, and it should be easy unless the 2SS part is backordered. It'll still be skinny, though, and won't look as good as MakCamaro's custom cover.

Your original question was, has anyone swapped out their steering wheel for an SS or AFTERMARKET. Aftermarket is most likely more popular than replacing the wheel with one from a lower trim. This is why you received feedback from people who replaced their wheel with an aftermarket vs an OEM SS wheel.

Understand and appreciate the leads, isnt the 2SS OEM wheel and ZL1 OEM wheel the same type exactly ? The only issue with aftermarket wheels are not only there are double the price but looks bit bulky and too thick for my taste

They are the exact same thing except for the cover material, the ZL1 variant has alcantara and the 2SS variant has perforated leather. Oh, that and the small plate at the bottom with the trim designation, you'll want to swap your ZL1 plaque over, of course. If you already like the thickness, it's exactly the same with both. Good luck

Online catalogs are a mess, take a look here: https://www.gmpartsdirect.com/v-2023...wheel-and-trim. 11 part numbers for the steering wheel, 2 can be ruled out as they are marked LS/LT only, but no information about the rest.

Obtaining the VIN of a suitable a 2023 2SS would help, the parts department at a dealership can then pull up the detailed parts catalog and give you the exact part number.

Simply finding a shop to swap the alcantara with perforated leather, will be much cheaper and you will get exactly what you want in terms of leather choice, colour, thickness, choice of stitching and even adding a stripe like I did. I haven't looked for an oem steering wheel online, but I suppose that it would be significantly more expensive. Just to give you an idea, if that helps, I paid 195 GBP (around 240 USD) for mine.

Thanks i tried all these with vain, even gave the dealer a VIN of a manual 2SS and asked him to give me part number so i can buy it the problem is there is no proper description of the wheel and even had to return one i bought because it was incorrect part

Most likely will be going aftermarket and i saw couple of wheels with CF Trim leather but not full leather ones

In Albuquerque, that would be a miraculous undertaking. The upholstery shops here are seriously deficient in their professional skill sets. I had my Ram 2500 driver's seat recovered 4 times from different shops over the years, and all their work looked like shit. I finally found one guy who installed a new stock seat foam and cover for me.

I tried having a shop re-cover the door panels in my ZL-1 and he ruined them, so I got 2SS ones.

Anyway, be sure the shop can re-cover the wheel properly.

Sad to hear that and yes it is in general hard to find a shop to do this kind of job reliably...
