Most dyno owners don't want to do pulls in 7th gear. Too high of mph, they should be done in 6th on a 10 spd and 5 on a 8 spd.

I think he might mean Ted will be reviewing the dyno logs and adjusting from there.

Here's where I put my wideband in my 5th gen. Always there, just need to change the sensor itself every couple of years

Even sooner if you're running leaded racing fuel.

When Ted street tuned my blower/cam install it was pretty straight forward. A couple 5K pulls and a couple WOT pulls and we were done. I am no professional tuner, hell, I still have a lot to learn about getting the most out of my car driving-wise. I just wonder what could be corrected or improved on a dyno that would trump a tune in the wild.

A dyno tune, for most of us, is nothing more than snapshot of a run in an artificial environment. If my car behaves like "this" in my backroad pull, how can a pull on a dyno replicate that in any way? I mean cooling the motor, how tight the car is strapped down, the proper gear, etc.

I would think that we would want to be tuned in the environment that we will be living in. I would be interested in knowing how often Ted street tunes the cars he dynos and what, if any, changes he makes. Hell, even the pro teams in the NHRA street tune their vehicles after every run. Yes, I know we aren't the NHRA, but the principle holds true.

This is my humble, uneducated opinion. Ha, but I have considered it. What say ye fellas?

The reason I have to head to the dyno is because I don’t have a wide band installed. The dyno has a wide band and that’s where we will make sure the wide-open pulls are safe. We are doing all the driving tuning on the street without the wide band because we have the long term fuel trims and I’m doing all the logging.

There are ways to tune without a wideband, but I think those are for experts. If you know the filters, and understand the data, it's possible. Once you start understanding the relationships between airmass, you can start using some sensors, and adjust for correction with the right filters.

It's not for the faint of heart. I wouldn't start from scratch that way, and I'd still add a WB to double check, but I'm more confident than ever in believing they aren't completely necessary. I've read many posts stating some people trust the narrow bands and OEM sensors more than WBs...

I wouldn't suggest it's for everybody.

Very nice. Will be interesting to see how you pick up power now from other supporting mods as you go forward

I don't play a preacher on TV but I preach this all the time, the Dyno is for tuning only and people who just want to be king for a day. Real tuning is done on the street or at the track after you've been on the dyno. Perfect example is my buddy in Florida that I raced at the LS Fest with his 2650 Z06. Dyno tuned at 720 and came to the LS Fest with a big smile on his face, we ran the first pass together and he couldn't run with my 632 rwhp setup we ran at the Fest because his tuner didn't do the final tuning on the street or the track. The Corvette was up against the rev-limiter or not wanting to shift at all so Mike (toohighpsi) worked with his tune and fixed some of it and it finally ran 10.55@135 but should have been running deep in the 10s like mine. Be king of the dyno or of the street? I'll take the street or track.

Agreed. A dyno tune should be a safe reasonably fat starting tune that will never be right for street or track. My previous KongX build had one dyno tune and at least dozen subsequent tunes, and I expect the same from this new build. I can't believe any tuner would say, "this dyno tune is good enough." But it does sound like something Ted would say.

GM should have paired the LT4 with a 2.3 or 2.65 in the first place

I’ve been street tuning with Ted all week. Dyno will be for the wot pulls to make sure the AF is safe in open loop. Like I said I dont have a wideband installed. Using the WB on the Dyno. We did all the street tuning already.
