So glad we got to meet and thanks for the spare lift blocks! Now I can actually put a jack stand underneath it.

It has been crazy with work and travel and I basically have done zero to the car or driven it much. I did get out for a couple of laps at The Ridge to give a ride to a friend.....

And......My apex wheels showed up! (19x11 square ET35) Some issues -

- Lugnuts didn't make it. (reordered)
- ARP wheel studs on b/o (using PTC 97419 instead)
- Wrong tires installed

OEM Goodyear F1 305/30/19s were installed instead of the 3Rs. Bummer. I can't really return them and can't justify spending another $1600 for 3Rs this late in the year since I am only going to get a handful of more days in.

I'll be driving Sept 3/4 and the plan is:

- Run the square setup with the OEM style Goodyear F1s that were mounted.
- Ferodo DS1.11 brakje pads
- Garmin Catalyst data gathering for a review

At least I will get good data of what a square setup is actually worth using the same tires.

Awesome car, making me excited for mine. Interested in your Garmin Catalyst review as well, I didn't check the PDR option box as I expected there was better aftermarket devices.

Tires - The tires could probably go another day, but it wouldn't be a record pace. Front wear is pretty darn excellent, maybe another .5 of camber, but really close. The rear for sure needs more camber, but it will have to wait for the arms to get installed.

Really enjoying this thread!

Question… and a bit late but curious why you think more neg camber is needed on the rears. Is that based on inside/center/outside tire temps or based on wear?

Looking at wear, it seems the outside shoulder barely has wear and the inside shoulder is worn all the way to the edge. Am I missing something?

Also, how did you like the new square setup? I keep thinking about doing the same in the future.

Based on wear and the inside is really not that abused.

Square setup this weekend!

#4 Ridge Motorsport Park – NO Chicane 1:47.52

Track Mode with ESC in Race

There were only 2 changes to the car for this day:

- 19x11 Apex ET35 wheels with 305/30/19 tires all around

- Ferodo DS1.11 front pads

Having seen enough nightmares from not being able to rotate tires, I wanted to ability to be able to rotate. I used the Apex 26mm spacer and due to backorders used the forum recommendations for wheels studs. (PTC 97419) Installation wasn’t too much of a chore and since I had to replace the front pads, great timing. I also used Monster lug nuts.

Tires…….I screwed up here. I thought I ordered “3R” Goodyear F1s and somehow ended up with the standard OEM 3S. The issue was, I ordered the tires and wheels from a friend and had them mounted and dropped to my house while I was on the East Coast and didn’t see which tires until it was too late. Since I only had 2 days for the next coming months, I decided not ordering another set of tires and used what was on there.

This ended up being a blessing as it made for a true comparison for what the square setup actually improves with the same tire – “Square setup with the same tire, is it faster?” And lastly, I was doing an evaluation for the Garmin Catalyst which I’ll write up in a separate thread.

Observations – Immediately with the new wheels, the car felt 200lbs lighter. (Reality is about 30lbs) Turn in was so much lighter and the car picked up revs much much quicker. (Shorter gearing) The brake pads were easy to bed in (I did most of it on the way to the track) and I was good to go. I set cold pressure at 26psi, aiming for 32 hot.

Wow, where to start…..The car turned so much better. Front grip was already good, but now it is even better. For whatever reason, I have almost no understeer, unless I induce it. The rear is the first to breakaway, every time, typically as I approach the slow point or right as I pick up the throttle. Stability was much improved and when the car broke grip, it was relatively slow and predicable. The speed graph (the 48.9 is stock tires/wheels) really tells the tale with where the improvements were. I could either go to the brakes at the same point – with more speed coming in because of a better drive, which came from the car being pointed better on the exit and holding its line, or go to the brakes later. The car tracks amazing, very sharp.

Note – the gearing is an issue. With the shorter tires I have to use 5th on the front straight and even though the gearing is shorter, the car basically won’t really pull it and top speed is down. Turn 12 has been a second gear corner and now 3rd seems “right”, but the data shows 3rd is slower. The stock motor really needs another 50HP on top for which I can’t do anything about as I want to keep the warranty.

Brakes….I thought the stock pads were decent and worked well. The Ferodos are in another world. Pedal feels is solid, zero fade and huge confidence in what I can do with the entry. In fact, I am having to back up my entries as the brakes combined with the front grip, has me rushing direction and my exits suffer. A great problem!

My goal was a second faster than before and -1.4 crushed that. For perspective, at the GTA event this year, ROTIS had the third best overall time (46.61) in his ZLE with 3Rs, 325 square and we are less than a second off that with the 3S tires. I feel confident I can get into the low 46s or maybe high 45s with 3R tires.

Great write up! Appreciate the detail. Can’t say I’m familiar with that track but given other times posted here, seems like a solid run!

I’d love to see some track footage from the catalyst too instead of just screen grabs. If possible.

For some reason I can't get the 47.52 lap to overlay. I can get the 47.86 lap to work though.....
