Could this be the new Z/28? - Page 7

Everyone should remember Chevrolet has the ZZ572 which puts out 720hp/685tq. If they want to stay naturally aspirated they could, I don't think that is stopping them. I do however think the Z/28 is likely retired for now. I am sure Chevy will revive the name somehow, maybe a hybrid? Ford has a Hybrid GT/Shelby in the works.

The ZZ572 is not an emissions legal engine and will never be used as a factory offering.

This is possible. Since they might be going to DOHC engines, I could see an N/A high revving DOHC hybrid Z/28 in the 7th gen.

The point wasn't the engine specifically. The point is, it can be done with some finesse. The N/A hp rating is not the factor that is holding them back.

the rumor is that GM tried to go big NA 600+ HP for the Z06. They could hit the power no problem but they couldn't get to pass cold start emissions which is why we have the LT4. With the current emission standards, I think the days of big power NA motors is gone.

I don't buy it for a second. GM would not have developed a unique engine just for the Z/28.

I would say more likely there never was a Z/28 planned for the 6th gen.

Would tend to agree. Like discussed here for years where would it have fit between the 1LE/ZL1LE?

I'm not certain where to stand with the "Gen 6 Z/28". I believe it was likely to not happen, but now, I don't know. As far as the unique engine for the Z/28, I believe I saw somewhere that it was rumored to use a 6.6L, to which the new Silverado/Sierra HD trucks use a brand new 6.6L engine, albeit an iron block version. The LT1 was originally developed to go in both the trucks and the cars, so why could there not have been an aluminum off shoot of this truck engine to end up in a Z/28? I would have to imagine that GM always explores all their options with new powertrains to increase their profits. I'm curious if any members have an engine building program that could play around with and simulate what a 6.6 LT could potentially do in a performance variant.

Exactly. Maybe a shared engine with C8 or Cadillac but not an exclusive Camaro engine, no way.

We are staying in the box of what HAS been done... who's to say GM doesn't decide to revisit a V10 at some point in the future ...

I know some will laugh and say this is blasphemy, but.. the only reason it hasn't been done and actually moved forward is because they scratched the idea at the time... everything must evolve , seems like the mid engine corvette would be a great place to start with a NA V10...
