'24 Coyote Mustangs just got hit with a gas guzzler's tax- $1000 for the GT and $1300 for the Dark Horse. People may hate the Camaro's AFM on the automatic or skip shift on the manual but at least both saved you from paying that tax!

2024 Mustang MPG (as per National Resources Canada) released, showing why the 5.0 equipped models will be receiving a "Gas Guzzler Tax":

• 2.3 EB – City 22 / Highway 33 / Combined 26
• 2.3 EB PP – City 21 / Highway 29 / Combined 24
• 5.0 GT A10 – City 15 / Highway 24 / Combined 18
• 5.0 DH M6 – City 14 / Highway 22 / Combined 17

They did not have numbers posted for the GT with the M6 or the DH with the A10 listed. But I imagine they're similar to the other V8 equipped models.

Compared to the current Camaro lineup:
• 2.0T A8 22/30/25
• 2.0T M6 19/29/22
• 3.6L A10 18/29/22
• 3.6L M6 16/26/20
• 6.2L A10 16/26/20
• 6.2L M6 16/24/19
• 6.2SC A10 13/21/16
• 6.2SC M6 14/20/16

tax is cheaper than a long block out of warranty

I'd gladly pay it instead of cags/afm

The whole car pricing industry, and not even just new, used as well, has been "out of hand" for a while now. I'm sure FoMoCo's marketing team was looking at the available cross shoppable completion and figured these prices were at least competitive.

All below are "well optioned" in my mind:
2023 Z Performance - $53,649
2023 GR Supra 3.0 Premium - $59,965
M240i Coupe - $54,975
M2 Coupe - $63,450
M440i Coupe - $64,600

With Challenger gone and Camaro in an abbreviated year, they're likely weren't even brought up.

Exactly. Drop an AFM lifter and let me know how far $1300.00 goes at the dealer lol.

pfft, I guess if you can't afford a $100k F-150 you settle for a $70k Mustang.

I agree. But at the same time, as a business, they know they'll sell every one of them they build, regardless. And I suppose they're also counting on the idea of "Well... what else are they going to buy?" Whether or not the buying public sees it for what it is or not, remains to be seen.

It does make one wonder exactly how insane the MSRP will be for the eventual GT500 successor.

Bingo. An “overpriced” option is superior to NO option…!

At the point I spend 70K on a car that's performance is 10 years old, I will switch, and maybe that is their angle. But I have my gas burner for now and for less, so sure.
