Is This Correct Oil?
Took my 19 SS to dealer for second oil change at 7300 miles today. They used Mobil 1 120760 0w40 European car formula oil. However I thought they would be using 123875 0w40 ESP formula. Should I be worried or it doesn't even really matter for a daily driver?
Now I am also curious what they have used for the first oil change. I am gonna have to find the old receipt. |

You have nothing to worry about, I use a dexos 2 approved oil, but now that I am supercharged my shop recommends redline 10w40 synthetic. You can always switch it out on your next oil change to something else. It's not going to damage anything. The most important thing about oil is keeping it fresh and changing it when it needs to be replaced.

As long as it meets dexos 2 you are good to go.
If that oil doesn’t have a dexos 2 spec I would ask the dealer why they are using it |

From what I can tell, Mobil 1 120760 0w40 European car formula oil is not Dexos certified.

Yes I would go back and ask why are they not using Dexos 2 oil as stated by GM. They need to explain that to you in writing if not ... then they need to at least change it out. The problem is 0W40 Mobile 1 with ESP oil is a pain to get in on their end.
Why don't they use 5W40 Dexos 2 which I am sure they plenty in stock. Dexos 2 is specific with emission preservation when it comes to catalyst life on these cars. If it was a car out of warranty and you as individual wanted to run something else your call. But a certified dealership to use a non Dexos 2 approved oil they are against GM warranty policy. |

The right oil is 5W30. Why is your dealer using 0W40?

Ya agreed - that's a problem.
I would show them the owners manual where it clearly says Dexos2 approved oil and ask why they didn't follow that. And make them correct it. It's also unclear to me if the earlier LT1 cars 2016-2018 are supposed to use Dexos1 or Dexos2. This blurb from Mobil makes it sound like all should use this new Dexos2 ESP oil. But my 2016 users manual calls for 5W30 Dexos1. Did GM issue a TSB to allow for Dexos2 in older LT1 motors? Otherwise I am going to continue with Dexos1 at least while the car is under warranty because that's what all the documentation says. |

Just had mine in the dealership for some work and an oil change. 5W30 Dexos. Not 2.

I checked the old receipt from my first oil change at 1500 miles and they used Mobil 1 112628 0w40. It is the same 0w40 European Formula but smaller bottle. So, I have had a non dexos 2 oil in my car for the last 5800 miles.
Should I go back to the dealer and ask for 0w40 esp formula dexos 2? or just let it go and keep using the same oil? Also the only dexos 2 approved 0w40 oil is mobil 1 esp formula? |
