Strut Bar

Just installed the "2018 CAMARO SS STRUT TOWER BRACE, ALUMINUM FINISH" on my 1LE. https://www.shopchevyparts.com/perfo...-92294966.html I was wondering why this brace did not come factory on our cars? Has anybody else installed one, and if so, what are your driving impressions? Thanks.

For Coupes the Strut towers are braced from the rear already from the factory. For convertibles some extra stiffness was needed so they did come factory on convertible models.

Partly because Al O and GM said the 6th gens are stiff enough to not need the strut to strut tower brace. Adding wont hurt as it will triangulate the front end. There is a brace that goes from each tower to the firewall.

My car came with the $215 option installed. I've heard it makes little difference on the solid chassis as-is, but I'm all for factory options on a tuned performance car!

It does not make a difference in our cars IMO. We are LONG removed from the days of 4th gens needing sub frame connectors and strut tower braces.

The engineers basically said the strut tower brace added very minimal stiffness and wasn't worth the cost. Even the top of the line ZL1 1LE didn't include one even when it tackled the Ring. So most people don't add it.
