GM is serious about which oil filter to use:

Check out the pic so there will be no questioning by service techs on which oil filter to use. This is from my '21 ZL1 1LE at 506 miles.

Nice!

And good on you for changing your oil at 500 miles! My first oil (AND Diff fluid) change on my 2020 2SS was at 505 miles as well, did my second at 1,500 (exactly) including another Diff change... (I did them both myself so cost was merely materials, cheap insurance)

Good to know. I'm about to hit 5k miles (I'm the 2nd owner) so ill be doing oil/trans/dif just to get it all done. Im still debating on the trans since its an 18 zl1 with the a10.

Don't bother with trans at 5k. If you were a 6MT I'd say do it.

I use a Napa Gold or Mobil 1 oil filter in my ZL1. I have a K&N that I got when I bought the 5 quart oil special deal with filter at Advance Auto that I have yet to use. My idea is if you use a quality oil filter you shouldn’t have any problems and the same goes for a quality name brand of synthetic oil. And I did notice the first oil change I did had a AC Delco Professional oil filter installed either from the factory or dealership I bought it from as it was used with less than 500 miles.

of course, they want the mark up on parts, but most people know the filters with synthetic media simply outperform cellulose (RP, Fram Ultra Gold) K&N and M1 are semi-syn

how did your oil look at that early 500 mile interval?

trans at 15k (for street)?

The oil which was drained looked brand new

The filter on my 2018 ZL1 looked the same....but I think the installers used a wrench to install it because it was the hardest oil filter I'd ever had to remove....it should be hand tight and than a 1/4 turn...nothing more...
