AC Drain issue I think

Well I have about 600 miles on the car now and with it being 100 degrees in the South this weekend I've noticed an issue. When driving the car back from South Carolina over the weekend my wife and I noticed water dripping on our feet while driving down the road. It seems like my AC Drain my be stopped up.

I'm called today and will be taking it in for a check in the morning. I hope this is an easy fix.

Has this happened to anyone else?

thanks,
Phillip

I have not had this happen, but most cars have a little rubber hose that connects to the bottom of the AC box under the glove box and pokes out the firewall to drain the water. If that were not installed or not installed properly this is precisely what would happen.

If it's like the previous generation then it is on the bottom of the case, going through the top of the transmission tunnel. I can look later to verify if this is the case.

I see the dealer in the morning so I'll let everyone know what happens.

Thanks,
Phil

Water dripping onto your feet sounds like condensate is forming on the ductwork. If the evaporator drain were clogged, I would expect a puddle to form on the carpet around the center console. There would be no dripping onto feet, as the water would simply overflow at the low level of the drain pan.

I suppose the next question is how are you running the A/C? Windows or sunroof cracked to let humid air in?

You are the Winner sir! http://www.camaro6.com/forums/images...es/biggrin.gif

The dealership looked and could not find a reason for the issue. Checked the drain and it was installed correctly and not clogged. It's a new car (1,000 miles), so I was more concerned of an install issue.

Yes, I was running the A/C when this occurred so I believe you are right. I live in Georgia and the humidity is off the chart right now. I think it was condensate on the lines/ducts that was dripping on me.

I think the mystery is solved but I'll keep an eye on it.

Thanks,
Phil

This just happened to me. Had AC on in very humid conditions, with window partially open.

well he just said it wasn't clogged.

Ductwork should be insulated so that condensation doesn't happen. Condensation on ductwork is the perfect place for mold to grow as it tends to be dark as well.

It's a shame that chevy seems to be choosing not to spend the extra couple bucks to insulate these things properly but instead spends those dollars on forcing needless crap like onstar and power seats that dont recline. Meh.

In a way, I bet the cold water dripping on your feet felt good in those kind of temps.

Dealing with this issue now. Did anyone find a fix? Took it to a local shop. They said tranny needs to be dropped to get to the drain.

Worked on Jags, Hyundai, Nissan/Inifiniti, GM, etc, duct work in cars isn't insulated.

Hmm. If drain clog is really the issue you might be able to get to it with an inspection cam:

Attach one of those cleaning brushes for reusable drinking straws to the end and clean it that way.
