Jacking up by the rear end
Has anyone out there used the rear end to lift the car? It looks like it would be easier to put the drag radials on and off? Help!!

If you mean use the differential housing, the answer is NOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Never with aluminum differentials for lifting. They are nothing like the old cast iron pumpkins in strength. |

I used the cross member just behind the rear diff. That location worked great. Its a nice flat surface for the jack pad and was sturdy enough to use to lift both rear wheels at the same time.

Don't forget to chock the front wheels if lifting the back end first!

Mine is the cast iron housing, it's the only reason I was considering using it as a lift point

Pretty sure the standard SS comes with an aluminum diff housing. Only the E-LSD diff has a cast iron center section, 1LE / ZL1 models.

I'll do the old magnet test when I get back home, the center section in mine is huge, and it sure looks like there only aluminium is on the drive side cover

Even if the differential is iron the independent rear suspension doesn't lift the rear end the same way that the old solid axles did on the previous generations. I don't think the 6th Gen structure is designed to be lifted by the differential alone. I think the cross member or the pinch welds are better lift points for the rear end. |

Thanks for everyone's help, and this is why I ask cause I'm not sure how long it would have taken me to notice that cross member behind the differential, but I got it now,

Been lifting my 1LE using the center diff with no issues for almost 1.5 years now. It holds the weight of the car when it is on the ground sitting.
